Hospital staff: “We don’t like patient’s wheelchairs to be at bedside. You can call us if you need it.” Me: “That’s not happening. My wheelchair stays put.” A wheelchair should not be on call. It must be in sight and in reach of the wheelchair user at all times.

(it’s funny how excited you can get about access, but it truly makes such a difference!) It shows how something as simple as a drawer knob, can be fitted to the lid of a pedal bin, to make it accessible to more people. This wouldn’t have cost much either.

Tomorrow (12th November 2024) is Purple Tuesday. This year the theme is #ThinkAccessibility. The focus is on promoting accessibility everywhere, everyday for everyone, and encouraging businesses to make their experiences more accessible for people with disabilities.
