From the footage shown before release, I could already tell Crimson Desert was shaping up to be more of a technical demo than a fully realized game.
That it would feel like an MMO in everything but name.
That the story would barely be there.
And people went for my throat over it.
And I get it, when a game you’re excited about doesn’t meet expectations, it stings.
But pretending criticism comes out of nowhere, or that people are just “hating,” isn’t helping anyone. A lot of us are just saying: manage your expectations.
We literally had this debate weeks ago: does story matter in games?
And yeah, gameplay is important. But for most players, no amount of systems or content will keep them around if there’s no story to anchor it.
If anything, this should be a reminder that hype culture is toxic, for players and studios.
Because when something looks too good to be true…
it usually is.

I've played for 100 hours. I've never been bored. It's a 9.5

Crimson Desert offers one of the most impressive worlds in gaming, but the deeper you go, the more it asks you to meet it on its own terms. gamerant.com/crimson-desert…

My Crimson Desert Review (W.I.P.)
TLDW: Crimson Desert is a game that fundamentally changes our perception of what is possible in the medium. Its open-world, exploration, and sheer scale all offer something that almost no other game has even attempted. It's NOT perfect: there are bugs, occasional quality dips, and its scope can sometimes leave ideas on the table for too long, but overall I'm thoroughly impressed. After 60+ hours I'm loving it. I think it will probably take me 120+ to roll credits and likely 300+ for a completionist run; even so, I cannot wait to see what else the game has tucked away for me to find and I'm actively playing it even while writing this pinned comment.
It won't be for everyone, and I expect the game-journalist memes will FLOW considering its lack of hand-holding, but it's definitely for me.

@LukeStephens Luke you Scammed me every review is negative besides your, 🤔 Is Pearl Abyss paying you for speaking positive about their game?

@metacritic Sad this appears to be bloated slop. I want to play a game, not get lost in it. Might have to cancel the preorder on this one, could be a flop.

Former Rockstar developer believes Crimson Desert could beat GTA 6 and win Game of the Year if Rockstar drops the ball:
“The story would have to be crap or have some kind of woke thing going on for people to hate the game.”

110 hours SO FAR?!
Bummer that Crimson Desert seems to fall into the trap of a lot of open-world games, in that it's a jack of all trades but master of none.
I'm still looking forward to checking this out on my PC for at least a bit, though, as it's genuinely stunning, visually

More than 110 hours in, Crimson Desert is an ambitious RPG that has swung wildly from incredibly cool to gobsmackingly infuriating. Our review so far: bit.ly/4lEo3D6

@LegacyKillaHD I predicted after the preview that this is one that game journalists will loathe. There is zero hand holding and even at the preview event I witnessed several journalists from big outlets getting stuck in the tutorial puzzle for 45 plus minutes...
