SATOLOGY 101 : CLASSIFICATION OF RARE SATs
Finding the rarest sats is both an art and a science. To truly master it, one must understand what makes a Sat rare and develop the ability to uncover all its unique traits.
This is how seasoned satologists have accumulated their most prized grails—by leveraging their exceptional skills to identify and evaluate rarity.
But how can this knowledge and skill set be made accessible to more enthusiasts? A simple framework can bridge the gap.
With this framework, you’ll gain the tools to identify and analyze the rarity attributes of any artifact, combine these attributes creatively to uncover crossover rarity, and confidently pick the rarest gems. It’s your pathway to becoming an expert in the hunt for rare sats.
Here’s an example of how this framework can be used to uncover attributes and creatively combine them to derive crossover rarity.

I’ll be sharing more examples in the days to come.
A heartfelt thank you to @sat_stats , @const_quary, @mrmel_m , and @DazoBTC for their invaluable inputs and encouragement in developing this framework. Its evolution will continue to be shaped by the insights and contributions of our incredible community.
I’ve also drawn inspiration from @ZedZeroth's Allure Framework, which has greatly influenced this work.

@ZedZeroth @RareSatsAcademy @DeepTechValue1 @MEonBTC @const_quary @MagicEden @digitalkm1 @alphasats I see. Makes sense
Working on range overlaps now
English

@sat_stats @RareSatsAcademy @DeepTechValue1 @MEonBTC @const_quary @MagicEden @digitalkm1 @alphasats Onchain apps require the ranges to be inscribed, though, and my figure above is actually too low. The sat ranges take up 13MB, equivalent to 3+ full bitcoin blocks, costing many thousands in USD to inscribe.
English

@ZedZeroth @RareSatsAcademy @DeepTechValue1 @MEonBTC @const_quary @MagicEden @digitalkm1 @alphasats I'm not sure I agree with this. Yes, what the market calls silk road is indeed a long list of sat ranges, and its a lot of sats. But it shouldnt be that hard for apps to track...
English

Short answer: All Silk Road sats with at least one other satribute please.
Long answer: The SR sat ranges are an absolute mess (obviously they have a complex transactional history). The full list of ranges is ~4MB, making it extremely expensive to inscribe. Hence SR sats can't be identified by onchain apps/games. But perhaps the "layered" SR sat ranges are much smaller and could be inscribed/identified.

@sat_stats Btw you had the numbers for perfect palinceptions (magisat discord, palindrome channel, 02/26/2024). But having them available in the API with current circulation stats and for uniform ones will be great!
English

We just added trailing 0s and trailing 9s to the Deezy Circulation Api. Check it out!

@sat_stats Perfect & uniform palinception subpali length next? 👀

4/ Ignoring locked sats & the 12 x B78s mentioned above, here are the total supplies for each circulating class. "7-7" e.g. 1355531-1355531 are the most common type, but were all mined in early 2009. The rarest class (albeit mined post-2011) are "4-4-4-4" e.g. 8448-8448-8448-8448

@RareSatsAcademy @ZedZeroth @DeepTechValue1 @MEonBTC @const_quary @MagicEden @digitalkm1 @alphasats Sorry can someone clarify exactly what we're looking for here?
English

@RareSatsAcademy @ZedZeroth @DeepTechValue1 @MEonBTC @const_quary @MagicEden @digitalkm1 @alphasats Ya for sure I can run this pretty quickly. Hopefully tomorrow

Uncommons are getting swept and there’s some healthy chatter about subrarities (h/t @Jayyysats). Time to look at the supply of several of these categories:
- Trailing zeros
- Unique digits
- Palindromic
Before we begin, mined uncommons as of today: 872,296
Some pretty interesting stuff 👇
English

@sat_stats Thankss for the infos. Are there still exchanges that tolerate sat hunting?
English

Chart 2/4: Breakdown by hunter type
Miners have steadily increased their share of uncommons found and are now sequestering the majority.
I bucket entities into 3 buckets. A "hunter" is an entity that cycles through BTC, sequestering rare sats with each new shuffle. This is most commonly done with an exchange (e.g. Binance, Coinbase). I draw a line in the sand and say you need 100 transactions of sequestering and sending BTC back to the same address to be counted in this category.
In the future I'll do a deeper dive into the "other" category. Some people think that the exchanges are sequestering like crazy and both my experience and this chart shows that's probably not true.

English

@sat_stats Solid as always. Its always interesting to see how the sat hunting space evolves over time. I'd be interested in knowing, if there are any selling patterns e.g. if possible average holding times, how they're offloading sats, behaviours of specific wallets etc
English

@sat_stats brother...thx a lot for all your time spend on rare sats and all your UNIQUE work about it
English

@sat_stats Yo @sat_stats you're a next level satologist and i have great appreciation for everything you post. May the force be with you
English

Chart 4/4: Breakdown of hunter activity
Here are some cuts of the "hunter" category mentioned earlier (someone who cycles through BTC over and over).
Hunting activity reached its peak around Q1 2024. The amount of BTC cycled with almost touched 300,000 in a month! 🤯
Similar to what we saw earlier, these charts show we're reaching a steady state / equilibrium with hunting activity.

English

Time to look at rare sat hunting activity
Chart 1/4: Uncommon sequester activity over time
(Definition: to sequester a sat is to find and deliberately set it aside)
We see a good amount of variability with hunting in the early months, culminating in a peak in Q1 2024. Seems like we've reached a steady state at this point. I expect the sequester rate to decrease over time as the circulating supply gets hunted over
Why uncommons only? They're an easy proxy for rare sats as a whole. As you'll see later in this thread, mined uncommons comprise a healthy percentage of the sequestered uncommons. At some point I'll do another post looking at pre-2023 uncommons which miners weren't able to get their hands on.

English

@alphasats turns out there was a bug in a software update. changes should be reflected in a few hours. thanks again for the heads up!
