This is such an illiterate reading of LOTR it's actually causing me pain. It is both clever and transgressive, and it DOES have LOTS of moral shades of grey. The entire ethos of the trilogy is "anybody can be evil." Good of the individual actually FAILS in the end.

One of the many reasons why so many love the Lord of the Rings trilogy is that it is straightforward, earnest. It is not clever or transgressive. There is a clear evil, a clear good. Yet it remains interesting. You do not need moral shades of gray in your story. Simplify.
