Housing action TOMORROW Tuesday 10 Dec Gathering to shut down the Homes Victoria offices at 50 Lonsdale Street at 12pm!

Due to the class action being delayed, with a final decision now coming next year, Homes Victoria will be unable to issue notices to vacate until the law suit is finished! They were originally planning to issue notices from 1 January 2025. theage.com.au/national/victo…

After a short break, the lawyer for Homes Victoria is insisting for the Cabinet documents to be immune from production. The trial has been adjourned for three weeks for documents to be produced. Until November. Short day today.

Simon Newport’s handwritten note from 18 September has been produced to explain his decision. There will be a separate hearing about the production of Cabinet documents. Judge says he is ‘trying to have it both ways’- explain his decision & hide behind confidential Cabinet docs

@jonobri @yimbymelbourne @theage @DanielAndrewsMP Yeah, and if you listened to anything that grassroots housing activists and critical researchers have been saying over the last decade, you wouldn't rely on politicians and the media to accurately communicate the actual outcomes: the transfer/privatisation of public housing

@savepublichous @yimbymelbourne @theage I'm going off the reporting and what @DanielAndrewsMP said during the Wednesday press conference—which indicates a 10% increase in public homes. In the case where there is _not_ a 10% increase in public homes, then we will absolutely pressure the government to ensure it happens.

@jonobri @yimbymelbourne No it doesn't, which is concerning that you don't know that. There will be a loss of 10,000 public housing dwellings and a gain of 11,000 community housing dwellings, over 30 years. We don't need more market housing, there are more vacant properties than people who need them.

@savepublichous @yimbymelbourne The Housing Statement sets wheels in motion for a net increase in public housing, as well as social and market housing. If we all work together to keep them to account—then we can work to create housing abundance that is truly for all.

@jonobri @yimbymelbourne You literally sent an email to us saying "Happy Housing Statement Week!", followed by "The State Government has heard us loud and clear. Now they're saying it themselves: housing must be 'abundant'." For whom will housing be abundant, we ask?

@savepublichous @yimbymelbourne The press release makes no mention of the public housing redevelopments. Personally, I'd like to see these communities kept together, and given local, better public homes prior to demolition so that transition is possible as a whole community.
