When things go wrong, our instinct is to panic, react, overthink, and try to control everything. But many times the smartest move is simply patience. 1. Stay calm 2. Keep doing your work 3. Don’t overreact 4. Let the bad phase pass Because time changes everything. Sometimes the storm doesn’t need you to fight it, it just needs you to sit still until it passes.

Interviewed a backend developer. Guy was at 21 LPA. We offered 28 LPA, roughly a 33 percent hike. He agreed and confirmed joining. Yesterday he emailed saying he got a 32 LPA offer elsewhere and now wants 36 LPA from us. Nonsense. Why agree in the first place. If you are still shopping offers just say it upfront. We stopped interviewing other candidates and waited through the notice period for the joining date. Now two days before joining, he came back with a new price tag.

Nobody expected different from you, Sam. Anthropic stood firm on no autonomous weapons and no mass surveillance and got blacklisted. Hours later, you show up claiming the same ‘red lines’ and somehow get the green light? If the terms are the same, explain why Anthropic was labeled a national security risk for asking what you just got approved. Elon was right about one thing, you’re not trustworthy. This isn’t de-escalation. This is opportunism dressed up as principle.

Tonight, we reached an agreement with the Department of War to deploy our models in their classified network. In all of our interactions, the DoW displayed a deep respect for safety and a desire to partner to achieve the best possible outcome. AI safety and wide distribution of benefits are the core of our mission. Two of our most important safety principles are prohibitions on domestic mass surveillance and human responsibility for the use of force, including for autonomous weapon systems. The DoW agrees with these principles, reflects them in law and policy, and we put them into our agreement. We also will build technical safeguards to ensure our models behave as they should, which the DoW also wanted. We will deploy FDEs to help with our models and to ensure their safety, we will deploy on cloud networks only. We are asking the DoW to offer these same terms to all AI companies, which in our opinion we think everyone should be willing to accept. We have expressed our strong desire to see things de-escalate away from legal and governmental actions and towards reasonable agreements. We remain committed to serve all of humanity as best we can. The world is a complicated, messy, and sometimes dangerous place.

Personal view: I admire @AnthropicAI sticking by their principles but disagree with the principle itself. Putin won’t fight fair so we should have autonomous AI weapons for sure.
