Understanding how citizens experience governance is essential to strengthening democratic legitimacy and renewal across Africa. Today in Nairobi, our Communications Coordinator for East Africa, Daniel Iberi (@DanIbery), is participating in the Global Democracy(@GloDemCoalition) Africa Regional Forum, to highlight how Africans’ lived realities shape perceptions of democracy and participation. #VoicesAfrica #GDCAfricaForum2026 #KeepDemocracyAlive

It’s happening! Today, Nairobi becomes the convergence of a continent in motion. Right now, youth leaders, organizers, innovators, and democracy protectors from across Africa are coming together for the GDC Africa Forum 2026. This isn’t just another event on the calendar. It’s a live moment in the making, shaped by a generation that refuses to wait its turn to lead. Under the theme “Reclaiming the Democratic Promise: Youth Agency, Digital Resilience, and Combating Kleptocracy in Africa,” today’s forum is designed for action. No passive listening. No business‑as‑usual. Participants are stepping into simulations, rapid‑fire dialogues, and immersive exchanges that dig into the realities of elections, digital threats, accountability, and the unstoppable rise of youth agency. Co‑hosted by @NuruTrustKenya and @YouthinSDGs, the Forum is intentionally built to spark ideas that travel far beyond the room. Insights from today will feed directly into the Africa Regional Report and shape the 2026 Global Report, ensuring that the conversations unfolding in Nairobi ripple outward into global democratic debates. And here’s the best part: you don’t have to be in Nairobi to be part of this moment. The virtual space is open, the livestream has started, and your voice matters just as much as those on the ground. Wherever you are joining from around the world, you’re part of a collective push to build a more inclusive, resilient, youth‑driven democratic future. Jump in. Participate. Add your voice. Today is the day we move the conversation forward together. Additional information, agenda, and livestream details are in the comments. #GDCForum2026 #GDCAfricaForum #KeepDemocracyAlive

Elections are a process ✔️ Pre-election environment ✔️ Voting day ✔️ Post-election justice Without all three, democracy is incomplete. Across Africa, weak electoral bodies, internet shutdowns, and restricted opposition space undermine “free and fair” elections. #KeepDemocracyAlive

Media practitioners play an important role in translating data into meaningful narratives that inform citizens and enrich public debate. To support this work, our Capacity Building Unit convened journalists from Eastern and Southern Africa for a hands-on basic data analysis workshop in Lusaka, Zambia, in August 2025. The sessions equipped participants with practical tools to analyse and use data in their reporting, strengthening clarity, credibility, and analytical rigour. Here is what some of them had to say after the workshop ⬇️ youtube.com/watch?v=iLel_W… #VoicesAfrica #TeachingAfrobarometer #CapacityBuilding

Afrobarometer, in collaboration with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), will co-host a side event at the Electoral Integrity in Africa Summit II, taking place on 11–12 November 2025 in Lusaka, Zambia. Our Director of Surveys, Boniface Dulani, will join a panel of experts on democracy and elections to discuss Afrobarometer findings on the gap between citizens’ support for elections in principle and their confidence in how those elections are conducted. The two-day event, organized by African Election Observers Network (@AfEONet) and Christian Churches Monitoring Group (@CCMG_Zambia), serves as a continental platform for reflection, dialogue, and collaboration to strengthen electoral integrity and inclusive governance across Africa. #VoicesAfrica #ElectoralIntegritySummit2 #Democracy
