It's interesting to me that in dreams you can't really read text or count the number of fingers you have...

@chrisrickard @DanCanCode It’s been years since I used PHP - switched to Rails in 2006 - but picked up the “up and running” book and read over the break. Really impressive stuff.

@DanCanCode Leveraging Laravel for the majority of projects was one of the best decisions I made in my agency.

In 2024 I will carve out time to build something non-trivial with Laravel to figure out if I want to use it for client projects.

@alinajaf Not sure I have much networking value but I’m curious to dig into the programmer existential crisis you’ve been through if you fancy a chat some time 🤷‍♂️

I’ve been trying to get in touch with the gang in London to restart networking like I used to Sad to hear that a lot of people (5+) the response has been “the pandemic was very rough on me/us and I don’t know when ill have the spiritual energy for a zoom call” Wish everyone speedy recoveries and good positive things, looks like this thing took a lot out of us

@alinajaf I feel like I’ve been waiting since TNG for the ship’s computer. Feels like we might be getting somewhere. “Hey computer - sort through all this shitty data, find some interesting insights and suggest something useful.”

I think when it comes to new tech I’m one of the most deeply conservative people I know. I’m still pretty happy with vanilla JS and maybe jQuery. I read the Satoshi Nakamura paper and thought meh. ChatGPT is now a daily fixture in my life and I don’t have the imaginative power to figure out all the ways in which it’s going to change the world.

There exist plenty of engineers with very, very hard technical skills who also are sociable, articulate, emotionally intelligent and have good fashion sense.

@sbartholomew Yeah it feels like I’m starting from scratch to an extent, perhaps because he’s spinning up all these new parts of his personality and I’m struggling to keep up.
