@expectedrisk @choffstein I do that, too. Doesn't help that glmnet in R uses alpha, while sklearn uses lambda 🙃 Cross validation and weight smoothing/tranching, to answer your question.

Total eclipses aren’t really that rare, right? I’m pretty sure Jupiter has them all the time because of the proximity of its moons. Do you mean the weirdness that our moon is just the right size to eclipse the sun versus, say, being much larger?

One thing that doesn't come up enough in the eclipse discourse is that there's no inherent reason for them to exist. The fact that we have a moon that just happens to be the right distance to appear as the same size as the sun, from time to time, doesn't exist on any other planet
