Sure. So could any technology. So *does* every technology. The phone you're thumbing your reply into, right now, is spying on you. Should we stop using phones? They've been listening in on our phone calls since the damn 50s. We gonna tear up all the phone lines? The FBI guys eating pizza while parked down the road from your house in the white Ford transit van listening to your conversations with a parabolic mic... what about them? We gonna ban microphones? Or Ford transit vans... or takeout pizza? No. Because that would be retarded. Same as abandoning the idea of advanced AI because *it's* going to be used to spy on us. Dude. They use everything to spy on us.

Generally speaking, they're being built to justify the insane amount of investment that's been poured into it. But, one of two possibilities exist: 1) We'll get the answers to some of lifes most pressing questions, like, curing cancer. Automation and production will exceed all records and usher in an age of unheard of abundance. Or 2) None of that will happen, the AI investment bubble will burst, there'll be a lot of embarrassed red faces and finger pointing, perhaps a recession on the level of the dot com bubble or 2008 financial crisis, which will lead to... indeterminable upheaval. Or... something in between those two outcomes, where we end up with a somewhat useful, if overpriced, parsing tool that upsets some markets, enhances others. I'm leaning on that last one.

Power isn't an issue if we stop listening to green retards. Water isn't an issue if power isn't an issue. Proximity is a feature, not a bug. No one has been able to explain why massive investment into their region is a bad thing beyond "It takes up space" and "Sometimes it's noisy" which applies to literally all industry.

Yeah. We can't get federal legislation passed to stop our governments spying on us... ...something literally everyone wants... ...but we're TOTALLY going to be able to stop... ***checks notes*** ...state governments from approving massive development and investment into their own states, generating huge amounts of revenue for state coffers, and thousands of jobs for their residents. Sure. Yeah. *Golf clap* Very good. I can see you're living in reality. Well done.

Or, alternatively, just do one, and keep using AI for the myriad of other uses it has beyond surveillance. Jfc, dude. You don't need to prohibit the CIA from listening to your phone calls... AND tear down all the cell phone towers. Just prohibit the the surveillance. That's all you have to do.

@scale_e @no_luck_4_you @BlaireWhite >>do both it's not rocket science since we're apparently not ready to do guillotines, next best is to slow the spread. unless you're an accelerationist, which is a whole other discussion.

The AI data centres don't *cause* your government to spy on you. They merely facilitate it. The *cause* is spineless politicians who bend to the will of the international intelligence community and refuse to submit legislation and oversight to STOP said government spying. Complaining about the data centres, is like complaining your car is filling up with water after you DELIBERATELY DRIVE OFF A GODDAMN BRIDGE. >>Fix the actual problem. >>Get you politicians to legislate against government overreach. >>Stop listening to green marxists that are cynically using your aversion to surveillance as a cudgel against the further development of the west. >>You are being a useful idiot.

@scale_e @BlaireWhite And how much water do they consume? And how much more land-area will they occupy? Because they keep expanding, and keep requiring more and more power, and more water for cooling.

@Kyle1051424 @BlaireWhite The time to build them was 4 decades ago. If the green retards hadnt shat all over nuclear power in the 80s/90s, we'd have limitless, carbon free (apparently that matters) power today. Every problem the green retards complain about is of their own creation.

@no_luck_4_you @BlaireWhite They're already doing that. They were doing it before 9-11. After 9-11 they went nuts with it. Liferally everything you say or do near a microphone or camera, assume they're listening. Oh, but now, *now* it's a problem because AI can parse the information faster? Jfc. Spare me.

Except in this analogy, we can have the bombs (the data centers) without the fallout (the power issues)... ...by simply building nuclear power plants. Or coal. Or gas. Basically any of the proven, effective power generation methods of the last century are fine. Power generetion isn't a hard problem. Green retards are the hard problem.

Hantavirus spreads by comtamination via rat shit. It's doesn't spread human to human. If one "peer reviewed study" is enough to convince anyone that it does... ...then here's a peer reviewed meta-analysis of many studies that says it doesn't. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC95… "The balance of the evidence does not support the claim of human-to-human transmission of ANDV." Failing that, folk could just use their fkn eyes to see that a cruise ship with thousands of people on it... only had 8 actually confirmed infections. 8 cases confirmed. On a goddamn cruise ship. If it spread human to human that ship would be a barge of the dead. But it aint. Cos it doesn't. Hantavirus was in the rat shit. The rat shit got in the food. The food got in a few people. The people got sick. That's it. That's all. There isn't any more.
