Progress on the Carolina Crossroads Project wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated crews working hard each day to rebuild and improve this vital corridor. We appreciate their ongoing commitment to keeping South Carolina moving.

Over the past two years, we’ve made significant progress on Phase 2 of the Carolina Crossroads project. This phase is now open and operational, delivering important improvements to safety, mobility, and overall traffic operations within the corridor.

As roads and bridges age, drivers may experience more vehicle wear and longer trips. Carolina Crossroads will modernize 14 miles of the I-20/I-26/I-126 corridor, improving the quality of our roadways and our commutes.

Phase 3C is about improving I-20 from US 378 and Bush River Road, building the foundation for a modernized corridor by: 🚧Replacing the bridge over the Saluda River 🚧Replacing the bridge over the CSX railway 🚧Widening a portion I-20 to handle more traffic in the future

Lane weaving and aggressive driving = more crashes and traffic jams. Carolina Crossroads is making big changes with fewer weaving movements and less congestion, creating a safer and smoother travel for everyone in the Midlands!

We’re getting ready for phase 3C construction! Before we kick off, here’s a throwback to some of the work done in 2025. These updates help prepare the corridor for the next stages of work.

📈 The Midlands region is expected to see a significant population increase by 2040. We are redesigning 14 miles of the I-20/I-26/I-126 corridor with this growth in mind. The goal of Carolina Crossroads? Enhancing travel efficiency and improving motorist safety.

SCDOT implemented a temporary closure of the I-126 West off-ramp to Colonial Life Blvd on December 1, 2025. Due to unanticipated construction delays, this closure is being extended and is now expected to reopen at 10 PM on January 10, 2026.
