Has anyone had experience with fall seeding grass/alfalfa? We might try seeding a grass mix this fall after things have stopped growing but before freezeup.

@kinburnsheep @schill_ryan @ValleyBioLtd You’re a saint, thank you! I have a friend that’s renting pasture and has random sheep on it to work his dogs with but not all of the sheep will winter well so I told him to plan to have the farmer plant cover crops for it

Canadians, what cover crops do you plant for winter for your sheep? I swore I saw videos of someone’s sheep digging out cover crops from under snow and I can’t remember who it was or what the crop was.

A little later than normal, but shearing the flock today and tomorrow. Really enjoy working with this crew from new Zeland. Such a laid back group and great at their job

XTR vs common triticale seed. Thanks to the growers who agreed to spend the extra $ on seed and take off plots. Excited to see these results!

@israel_brett Back in the day when I was in grade school we quite often had all the small grains in around the Apr 21 area, than had 2 weeks of rain/snow mix after that

I hope that the forecast holds for the next 2 weeks, spring drought>summer drought, would love the rain in late June + July this year #ontag

Do I just switch completely over to texels orrrr? 😂 I’m in love with this lamb but I like the idea of cross breeding with Finn’s. Decisions, decisions…might just slowly phase out my Finn ewes as I retire them and not hold back replacements from Finn’s.
