Today, I had a meeting with several people from another kidney-focused company, in which I unexpectedly found a former NxStage colleague. I made a comment about how we are a part of the diaspora. It's difficult to describe the feelings of kinship and pride in all that we did together to put home hemodialysis back on the map in US. I will never forget that experience.

Are we paying attention? I had a nice chat with a relative whose mother was on dialysis. He told me about the strong community in the hd unit. And about how painful and scary it was when someone stops showing up then they find out (s)he died. 💔

@eric_weinhandl @GarySingerMD 80:20 may be a practical solution - data might help to find the optimal ratio - the numbers are tools to standardize quality - not sure where the optimal standard comes out with imperfect metrics to start of with

@schillerb1 @GarySingerMD I think that some version of an 80/20 rule could work in theory (it appeals to me), but I wonder whether the approach translates faithfully as we push it down to the individual clinic manager or nurse.
