Very proud of my PhD student Jake Silliman, whose extremely challenging experiment succeeded: mechanical tensile tests on the thinnest natural spider silk nanofibrils ever — only 5 nm thin, discovered in my lab by Dr. Sean Koebley. doi.org/10.1002/adfm.2…

So good to be at the MRS Fall Meeting in Boston again after a few years! Gave two talks featuring our silk research already today. Are you also at MRS and want to meet? Message me! #MRS

I recently handled my 25th manuscript as an editor. Very insightful and rewarding to see the peer reviewing process from this angle. #plosone

First we had to get ResearcherIDs. Shortly after, this got switched to Publons (with new IDs). Now being switched back to WOS (with yet another ID). No documentation (but lots of info on all these "wonderful" new products). @clarivate, this is so below my expectations+standards.

What was supposed to be a 9-hr non-stop flight turned into a traumatizing 55-hr travel nightmare for my family of 5. Crying kids, sleepless nights, hauling tons of bags—all because airline tried to make an extra buck: overbooked our flight, then tried to up-sell to business class

Today, our PhD student Ben Skopic's paper on the amazing adhesive behavior of the brown recluse spider's tape silk was published in Materials Horizons! We will never think the same way again about sticky tapes: doi.org/10.1039/D2MH00… Another beautiful example of bio-inspiration.

Beautiful paper by our PhD student Dinidu Perera in Small (2021 impact factor: 15.153) onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/sm… Most detailed experimental study of the local nanomechanics of spider silk to date! First determination of adhesion strength between individual spider silk nanofibrils.
