What Ukraine is doing right now is working. I’ve been speaking to units recently and it seems the Russian southern front is in a dire situation. The main highway that supplies Kherson and Crimea has been totally cut. I’ve not seen it this bad for the Russians and it seems they literally have no way to stop this. Russian military bloggers are going nuts. Analysts have stated outright that logistics across Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts are completely disrupted. Ukrainian drones are striking rail junctions, fuel trains and supply convoys on a daily basis. Crimea is already facing fuel shortages and restrictions on basic goods. The land corridor Moscow spent years building is falling apart under sustained pressure. In Oleshky, Enerhodar and other occupied towns near the front, Ukrainian drones have been constantly destroying Russian drone teams. Reinforcements would have to be rushed in under constant drone attack, and the routes are already compromised. If Ukraine continues this tactic, it’s going to be the worst year on record for Russia. They literally have no way to stop this.

@ScottLikedSLS @Owen_JNO But warm on rocket engine scale could still be beyond boiling. I believe to remember from one of EDA's tours, that Musk said something about "first very cold to then super hot with the ullage gas" in reference to something tank-steel related

@schoene_jonas it still gets very hot in that aft bay due to it having a large pressure fluxuation, its the same reason you see the SLS corestage engine section catch fire

Think the ship might need to get some of those booster aft tiles lol

@schoene_jonas Issue is volume. CH4 is very un dense and that much wouldn’t fit in a starship bay

Issue with starship mars missions is generating CH4 via ISRU, specifically H2 from mining ice However, SpaceX probably can just bring like 100-200 tons of CH4 with them and get a barebones Ship MAV to low or high mars orbit, respectively. Only need O2 ISRU, no need for mining

@DJSnM Maybe they can weld some parts of the hotstage shut as they did on V2 to help with the direction?

Once it started going laterally the starship exhaust hit the grid fins and drove the booster into a roll which never stopped until it entered the atmosphere. The booster has to flip upwards so that the grid fins don't interact.

I still don't have a good explanation for why the booster flipped the wrong direction beyond the notion that it's an unstable situation and small perturbations can quickly grow in ways not planned.

@schoene_jonas @mcrs987 @LukaszTreder That's what I'm thinking. But I think they REALLY REALLY wanted to squeeze out every drop of efficiency by starting the 33-engine boostback ASAP.

Color-coding the engine config according to startup/shutdown sequences REALLY shows the impact of that single engine on the entire booster. 3 other engines failed to fully light before the energetic event.

@mcrs987 @LukaszTreder Couldn't they do the flip on 13 engines and light the outer 20 just 2-3 seconds later to reduce the shock?!

@LukaszTreder Yeah changed to 5 now on V3 Boostback sequence goes 33->5 MECO, 5->33->13 boostback, 13->3->0 boostback shutdown. Same with landing burn, 0->13->5->3->0

@supersonicflipz Those stainless steel ships are tough! Really impressive with all the damage on previous flights. I'm wondering now if we'll ever see a ship entry failure.

Yet again, every single ship that has reached a controlled entry interface has managed to successfully pass through reentry and perform a perfect flip and splashdown 6/6 on that front
