When you have a difficult, disrespectful, and defiant student, my biggest tip for you… is to have lots of conversations with them when they are not in trouble. These conversations are where you build rapport… and that rapport makes future confrontations less likely.

Resilience isn’t about immunity to pain. It’s about finding the strength to withstand strain. You don't need to overcome all your hardships now. You just have to carry them until your future self can handle them. The burdens that seem heavy today usually feel lighter tomorrow.

Talking about suicide or asking people about their suicidal thoughts or impulses won’t plant the idea in someone’s head or “trigger” suicide. If you don’t ask you cannot prevent. I know it’s a well debunked myth but encountered it again today so it’s worth repeating.
