Doesn't everybody understand that Trump is an unmitigated economic disaster? 1. New hostile skyhigh tariffs cut growth & boost inflation. 2. Lawlessness & haphazard sudden policy changes make it impossible to invest in the US. 3. Completely irresponsible fiscal policy. Byebye US!

It's my last day @NatureMedicine, my work home for almost 23yrs!! Thank you to ALL the editors I've had the privilege to work with over the yrs, who deserve far more recognition than they receive! And to all the researchers whose amazing science we have the honour to publish!

@DrAnneCarpenter I used Sciwheel for this when I was a manuscript editor a few years ago after vetting a bunch of other options - it was great for this type of sharing. Looks like it's still running!

We'd like to have a system to share papers within the lab, both PDFs and our comments about each paper. As people depart, they could take a copy of the whole 'library' with them. I'm going to check if Paperpile has nicer sharing these days, but any other ideas we should try?

@sejkeown @sejkeown The process increases the power of the institution, the box where kids are sent, & makes their world dependent on adults for navigating. A child's world is their neighborhood. The box may be good for kids with a bad environment. For others it diminishes their lives.

@sejkeown I also wonder about the net effects on mental health. Fewer in-neighborhood interactions, less walking - more reliance on parents for play dates. On the other hand, more potential for support at bigger schools. @sejkeown

& still no explanation from SPS of *how* closing schools will save money (esp. when we know that ~20% students will leave the district when their schools close, & WA districts are funded per-capita), & even the rosiest projections leave us w/the vast majority of our debt intact.

Seattle Public Schools held a second public meeting, this one at Garfield High, to pitch a proposal that could close 20 elementary schools. st.news/3R8wQiD

@isolderaftery Apparently Garfield's long-time resource officer prior to the pandemic was also well regarded, so I've heard.

@schubertcm I'm talking about the Panthers who worked as security officers at Garfield in the 90s, when I attended. They were warm and empowering -- and knew everything going on. That's the energy needed.
