@DurhamComplete Their solution: "Build a bigger road" “If that was built today, we’d have a nice big bridge, nice side paths, it would be great. We’d have everything out there for everybody, because that’s what we would do today.” Also, be thankful there are sidewalks lol

@DurhamComplete He is pretty smug about how research driven they are: “We want to see it in analysis." Curious what the safety analysis says. Isn't NCDOT a Vision Zero agency?

@DavidZipper @FastCompany Not covered: capital investments. The public sector often secured very large grants (or gave advertising rights) to implement systems and then they owned the bikes/docks. So subsidy was always part of bike share, but that has somehow been forgotten.

Love bikeshare, but want it to be cheaper -- with more e-bikes? Ask your local officials to subsidize it. For years, many cities have expected bikeshare to break even. For bikeshare to grow, that needs to change. Me in @FastCompany 🧵 fastcompany.com/90883010/undoi…

@JillianDURM 100% agree. LA shows widening freeways and roads will not get Durham the future it wants. We must provide safe ways for people to get around without cars. Approving the VZ coordinator position, along with regular oversite and political backing wrt @NCDOT and NIMBYs, is first step

Transportation leader Ryan Russo joined our Advisory Board to help us accelerate the adoption of bikes and scooters. We've collaborated with Ryan since his time at NYCDOT and Oakland DOT. And we're so grateful to work with him in this new capacity. Welcome, @TogetherRyan!

Highly recommend grabbing some snacks and filling out the surveys of all bike surveys. Advocates, policymakers, and planners need more ebike data. Please help spread the word 📢!
TREC at PSU@TRECpdx

Own an #ebike? We need your input: Take a 15-25 minute survey and be entered into a drawing to win prizes! Your responses to the survey will be used to create better policies, legislation, and infrastructure for e-bike users: tinyurl.com/ebikesurvey2023

Denver is giving its residents a rebate on e-bike purchases, and it's having a big impact. According to @RideReport, participants have replaced 3.4 vehicle trips per week on average, reducing CO2 emissions by 2040 tons and saving about $1M in fuel costs! axios.com/local/denver/2…

Great summary of Denver's ebike subsidy white paper in @StreetsblogUSA by @streetsblogkea Great @MikeSalisbury78 quote noting residents “flooded the application site like Taylor Swift fans flooding Ticketmaster” Lots of latent demand for a great program.
Streetsblog USA@StreetsblogUSA

Denver made headlines last year when it gave more than 4,700 residents a massive discount on e-bikes. Now, new data shows specifically how voucher recipients rode, and why their new rides changed their lives. (HT @ridereport) usa.streetsblog.org/2023/03/07/wha…

In 2022, Denver launched an ebike incentive program. 4,734 Denver residents became new ebike owners in just 9 month. The popularity of Denver's ebike rebates exceeded expectations and generated local and national coverage. Here's some stats: 1/n

@DurhamComplete @AlUrbanists Good point. I would guess the number of trips needing to access that one block coming from the west is pretty low, but let’s add it to the scope of the study if they ever make a project out of it 😉

@DurhamComplete @AlUrbanists I would turn Morris into a Cul de Sac for cars with no ability to get to/from 5 points on that street. All access from the loop/Morgan. Seems like that would solve many of the issues.

This report backs up what many have felt for a long time: ebike subsidies represent one of the best investments a government can make as part of its transportation, climate, and economic strategy. Special shoutouts to @NellePierson @brianellin for leading Ride Report's efforts!

@michalnaka @DavidZipper Operators in Denver also help fund infrastructure directly related to the program (e.g., parking corrals). It is so cool to see how the City/County has grown complementary goals -- owned and shared micromobility -- through complementary policies.

@DavidZipper Denver is 1 of the best designed shared micromobity programs. No operator fees in exchange for low-income & equity requirements. They have maintained high TVD while avg vehicles deployed over the last 3 yrs has 4x! Win for the operators ($), win for the city (6000+ vehicles)
