@MoreorLoess It is a traditional analgesic among other things. It makes an attractive purple tincture, and dubious claims abound. I worry about over-harvesting, but also poisoning from uninformed consumption.

It's that time of year again for my favorite mycoheterotroph! It has seen a frightening uptick in popularity with amateur foragers online. Is there any good research or advice from traditional knowledge holders out there to share with them?

The Bessey Unit (after botanist Charles Bessey) is a century-old experiment, with 20,000 acres of hand-planted forest (still the largest in the western hemisphere) surrounded by the vast sandhills prairie.

@BugsOrBust My guesses: 1- reminds me of Araceae houseplants 2- ferns on far L and R, hosta on the L, hydrangeas by the hosta, maybe tulips, irises, or stylized grass in the middle? Deciduous trees on either side 3- grasses and little saplings or lianas in front of deciduous hardwoods

@BugsOrBust I like what others said about looking at what areas inspired the artists, but these also look very inspired by human landscapes (where most people interact with nature- parks, backyards, gardens) 1/2

Okay Biology Twitter don't fail me now: What kinds of plants do you think are in these screenshots? I'll take anywhere from family, to genus, to species. I'm doing a little project, and promise to give credit where it's due. I almost failed all my plant courses in undergrad btw.
