Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina is my first experience of any cyclone, and I'm in awe of the power it's wielding. I've already seen it causing damage, just from my limited view out of the balcony. Tomorrow is going to be a hard day for the Northwest of the Top End.

@mikeyhon My educated guess - and it's just a guess without more specific info - it's likely a condensation trail from a plane, blown around by upper winds with a bit of shear. Also...things that look vertical can actually be horizontal. Perspective on a globe is fun!

@SciNate can you explain this cloud formation over Gerringong this morning. (Tuesday) Beautiful upward spiral cloud All the others were distant and horizontal- this on vertical. Not a jet stream

Not all heroes wear capes... some wear waistcoats! 😅 Thanks @FerrierSteph for keeping the tradition alive while I have a bit of a break. Back next week!

Carrying on a certain Wednesday tradition set by ⁦@SciNate while he’s on leave - not as well as him though! 😀 I’ll have an update on the floods and the rest of the weather outlook coming up on ABC News Breakfast. Join us from 6am.

@ripperriver Tricky to be sure, but could be the start of a fallstreak hole. Ends up clearing out a circle of cloud.

@crk5 Humid air is slightly less dense than dry air, so the force imparted at a given wind speed is slightly less if the water vapour content is high, but in reality you'd probably never notice.

@dickybeacholdie Potentially, near the coast, but the forces at play in the upper levels of the atmosphere are fighting to tear it apart. Should stay as a Cat 2.

We're sad to be leaving Port Hedland, but the cleanup is getting close to complete. Not true for surrounding communities, but I'll bring you their stories when I can. Such a privilege to get to do what we do. Thanks for sharing your time & being so welcoming in the Pilbara!

I'm in Port Hedland, safe and sound. Lots of trees down, still plenty of water around, but everyone I've spoken to is well, if not a little shaken. I'll see you on @abcnews Weekend Breakfast in the morning!

@TAWilson3 Not unusual at all - in severe tropical cyclones, eyewall replacement phases or new midlevel steering influences can make things a bit messy. Also, this is a model rather than observations, so take it with a grain of salt.

@SciNate Is it unusual for a cyclone to have an oval shaped eye? Aren't they usually perfect circles?
