I want to scan the QR code, but how can I do it when it’s on my iPhone!?! Here’s something really cool I learned today! I posted this about our meeting. Then, I thought, “Oh man! I didn’t include a link to register. If they open this on their phone, there is no link you can click on to register for our free meeting. How can you use your phone to scan the QR code ON your phone? The answer? Screenshot the image. Open the image in Photos, and click and hold on the QR code. Your phone understands what you are trying to do, and activates the link. Viola! You are at our site and can register. Cool!

I was thankful to be invited to present our ongoing work at the 2026 annual SAGES NBT Innovation Weekend at the Woodlands in Texas. During the “My Favorite Digital Tool to Improve My Performance” session, I presented our work on Spatial Computing in the OR to improve visual acuity and ergonomics in monitor-based operations and procedures. In the poll of the audience following all presentations, we received the highest number of votes for “the technology presented which I would like to have now”! We are using the @Apple Vision Pro and our @KARLSTORZ system to provide surgeons with 4K 3D virtual monitors that always allow 4K 3D viewing and placement of that monitor in the best ergonomic position. Our system allows for a primary laparoscopy and multiple secondary monitors. Intra-operative endoscopy, vital signs, intra-operative cholangiograms, laparoscopic common bile duct exploration, and intra-operative EndoFlip measurements have all been utilized on second and third virtual monitors. There are many additional advantages to this system and we believe that this is the future of digital visualization for monitor-based operations and procedures.

Happy to see that two of my residents, @JuliaSchroerMed and @priyalarun got to meet with a fantastic role model, Sallie Matthews, at the annual Women In Surgery Career Symposium in Tampa. Sallie is just one of many leaders in their field who shared the stories of their journeys to success. I hope that Priya Arunachalam and Julia Schroer absorbed that shared knowledge and made connections that will serve them and last throughout their careers. We just wrapped up an incredible meeting, the International MIS and Surgical Innovation in Infants & Children Conference, in Vail, Colorado, put on by Dr. Steve Rothenberg. Don’t let the destination fool you. This was a top flight meeting that would be a “must attend” regardless of the destination. (I would have attended if the meeting was in Cleveland in January! Sorry Cleveland folks.) I was privileged to be invited to present our work on utilizing the @KARLSTORZ_USA system and  @Apple Vision Pro device to provide a true, 4K 3D virtual monitor and imaging system in surgery. I learned a ton about using AI from @tponsky and have already started using it! There were so many other fantastic presentations by surgeons who are the thought leaders, technical innovators, and master surgeons in the field of pediatric surgery. I made new friends and colleagues who share a passion for innovation and excellence in surgery. I can not thank Steve enough for allowing me to contribute to and be a part of this unparalleled meeting. While I do ALMOST all of my operations laparoscopically, it is not 100%. However, when I see postings like this on my schedule, I feel like this is a sign of a career well done. “You have been trained well young Padawans.”
