Now is the time of year when I get frustrated with the use of "EST" when scheduling meetings. I usually assume folks actually mean Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) rather than Easter Standard Time (EST), but I'm never comfortably certain.

I think the must frustrating part of my current skill set is the ability to identify that what I’m working on isn’t an isolated bug, but an indication of a larger issue but not having the skill to develop the larger solution. I’ll get there but I’m not there yet

Got my first tech offsite coming up. All my past work trips have been retail, where the expectation was to ✨dress✨and I have no idea how to cosplay a techie

@editingemily I’m going to have to disagree on this one. For large legacy systems, my experience is they if you don’t feel a rewrite would improve things, you aren’t looking. They grew organically and are usually full of glitches and gotchas. But, from a business perspective, often too pricey.

He who smelt it dealt it. In all seriousness, I’ve come to view suggested rewrites as a red flag. Especially when it comes to large legacy systems. Isolated rewrites of specific services? Hell yes. Complete rewrite? Lol.

@cnnevets It depends on what my eyes tell me. Someone remote might tell me the salt is “right here.” Next to them. In the same situation they might say “over here.” “Over here” is more beckoning.

Okay, English speakers, if you were asked to distinguish clearly between distinct meanings for these two sentences, how would you do so? 1) The salt is right here. 2) The salt is over here.

@codeFreedomRitr For a path to senior, I tend to look more at soft skills than at production: ability to mentor, general technical knowledge (breadth or depth), trouble shooting/critical thinking skills. I’m not sure that’s growth you can hard-charge, anyway.

I think I was on the path to promotion soon but with all the shifts in my life, I’m slowing down a bit. A part of me is terrified of losing the head start I worked so hard for but I remind myself I’m only approaching the 2 year mark and I know that I’m still on track. Marathon.
