@PSLiterary Not sure if any book inspired me to write my own, but I have fond memories of Anne McCaffrey's Dragon Riders of Pern. I think that sense of wonder and comfort is what I want to give to others. Be well.

@_McKatie_ Don't ask what happens, but what could happen. Then hand write a list of as many ideas on a sheet of paper as you can in under two minutes. An idea will likely surprise you and take hold. Consider combining two distinct ideas. Hope this helps!

What do you do when you have an opening idea you really like (characters, setting, theme, all that) but no clue what happens next? No inciding incident, no plot? Asking for my dumb self 😭

My daughter gave me How to Make Friends advice: "Just find out what someone likes and talk about that with them." I like water & woods & quiet, Final Fantasy (& other rpg) games, elephants, puzzles & mysteries. I'm an avid aerialist & a struggling pianist. In case of friends 😉

@marie_croke I hear you, but this one was really good! I bought a copy of Erin Bowman's book Dustborn. She did a great talk on mixing genres. The Writers Hotel in Maine has two free events coming up that I might try to attend. 🤪

@scott_gray_m That library event sounds like fun! Were there other spec fic writers? The library events near me tend to lean *heavily* toward people writing about genealogy or local history (which are both valid and great genres, just not who I'd prefer to chat with, you know?)

I will be at Stokercon in 6 weeks. Never been before, yet have been informed that the horror crowd is generally incredibly kind and welcoming... ...so, uh, please don't eat me

@marie_croke I have a few conflicts with local cons this year 😕 Though, I went to a free one day writer's gathering at a nearby library a few weeks back that was delightful 🙂
