If this plays out and we get a general election this autumn, Labour will have had almost 3 months to sell Andy Burnham to the public with virtually no PMQ scrutiny.
Instead, we'll get carefully staged announcements, polished TikToks and favourable headlines.
Legacy media still hasn't seriously grilled Burnham on his economic plans for Britain. So far, we've seen more PR than policy.
If that was the strategy all along, it has been executed perfectly.

Andy Burnham says he won't call an early general election because “people don't want it.” I don't buy it. In my opinion, this Labour leadership switch was planned months in advance, with the timing carefully chosen. Becoming Prime Minister just before summer recess gives Burnham 6 weeks to dominate headlines with positive PR, while avoiding the weekly scrutiny of PMQs. If he then calls a general election in late August or early September, Parliament is dissolved, PMQs disappear, and the campaign becomes another 6 weeks opportunity to sell promises without the same level of parliamentary challenge. That's why I think this timeline was orchestrated from the start.

Andy Burnham gets airdropped into the PM job and five days later he’s cutting ribbons on a shiny new “No 10 North” in Manchester like it magically appeared overnight. Of course it did. These people plan their theater months in advance. Britain is drowning in migrant crime, grooming gangs, knife attacks, and a welfare state that’s bigger than the tax base… but sure, let’s move some desks and a logo 200 miles north for a photo op and call it “rewiring the state.” This is a PR stunt from a guy who’s going to be even worse than Starmer.

A fully kitted out, shiny new headquarters but still nothing on the big issues: immigration, economy, health - just deafening silence.
I find it worse that Burnham & Co had (seemingly) done so much prep for a gimmick and so markedly little on the issues that matter.

It’s already been established that Scotland has a c. 25% funding advantage when it comes to delivery of comparable services.
An advantage that is not mirrored in tax raised.

New HMRC data suggests the result may have been the opposite: Scotland collected about £22m less.
We can't be sure, but Scotland may have fallen over the Laffer curve.

@Xants_CityDG @paullewismoney And pay for prescription & dental check ups, uni fees, higher property prices, possibly higher council tax, water charges, no free buses for U23’s, etc. There’s more than income tax to consider, the benefits that go along with it should be taken into account too.
