The Oscars In Memoriam ignored him but I cannot. He was my friend. I put him in five films. In early January I buried James “PJ” Ransone after he committed suicide… He was a complex, funny, talented, and undeniably reckless person. He was wildly alive and deeply loved. I know he said some infuriating things online, but the last time I saw him, he cried with regret for all of that. “I didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings,” he said. Please don’t trash him here. He is dearly missed.

@EdwinArnaudin I assume you’ve given me bad reviews or don’t like my feed or both — even so, yeah, it’s good to agree about one of the great pop auteurs ever. His films are incomparable/irreplaceable. He didn’t make action movies, he made action films.

Love this. Deserved. Here’s a great Kevin Feige/Marvel/USC story. Friday night, Oct 13, 2016. Because Kevin and I are both USC film school alumni, he asked me to join him on the night of the DOCTOR STRANGE global release, to screen the film and do a Q&A for Leonard Maltin’s film class on the USC campus. I sat alone in front of the Norris Theater. I hadn’t been there in 10 years. It was around 8pm so I had already seen both the weekend box office numbers and most of the published reviews for DOCTOR STRANGE — both were extremely good. I see Kevin walking toward me (in his usual nerdy duck-foot walk) out of the darkness. He’s alone. No entourage, no assistants, just him and his ball cap. Very typical. Untypical: he was smiling huge. KEVIN (calls out): Well, how do you feel? ME: How do I feel?! Relieved! Someday somebody’s gonna make a bad Marvel movie…BUT IT AIN’T GONNA BE ME! Kevin laughed. #TrueStory

This is a historic time. One for the books. What we individually support and reject now defines who we are as human beings.
