PRESS RELEASE - Dangerous Overreach The Australian Lobby Group condemns actions of the Albanese government in its announcement of new extreme censorship laws it intends to force through parliament next week. This egregious overstep threatens the fundamental rights of ALL Australians and their ability to express themselves civilly as well as access uncensored information. A nation cannot claim it is a democracy where the free exchange of ideas is censored. The Prime Minister himself once made a similar statement. The actions of the Prime Minister will result in further damage to the social cohesion he claims to seek to enforce with these sweeping new laws.

This is coming for Australians. Citizens being able to freely express thoughts and ideas is seen as a threat. This creates the situation where disagreeing with the gov can directly lead to punishment or targeting. Historically this doesn't end well for citizens.

@SmilaZParadis I love that "nothing to hide" argument. There are many places all over the world where people cannot discuss ideas or share thoughts and opinions with fear or repercussions from authorities. I'm watching the UK with great interest right now. Australia is following.

@SmilaZParadis It's a mess. Many people have the idea that debating a topic is a bad thing. An idea that can't withstand scrutiny is weak idea. People need to be able to speak freely, and that necessitates being able to speak privately and anonymously.

@KarlTheProgrmr Yes skin deep it sounds great. Most people won't argue with "fair". e.g. I agree that "essential" social programs should exist. Socialists bend "fair" until we reach our current state, which is insane spending, broken economies and societies, and the destruction of wealth.

What is the argument here? Saying no-one from the executive branch, which these agencies are under, should have access to the data needed to audit it can't be the argument. That is completely illogical. Are they claiming that more than the required amount of access is being given? That DOGE could audit with less access? Or are they just saying that they don't trust Elon and they would like someone else to do the audit?

@KarlTheProgrmr You're very lucky. It has begun. Over here in Australia, there is no political will to reduce gov spending. The answer to all spending problems is to spend even more on new and existing programs that don't benefit citizens. Socialism sucks.

@KarlTheProgrmr I love his claim. But, the Dems spent increasingly large sums on programs that dont benefit the US. To be fair, all prior govs had a hand in this. Spending has been unaccountable to citizens, and nobody voted to fund these programs. It's audit time, or become a failed state.
