My Pirates bullpen plan when Jones returns: -Soto closer -Mlod and Dotel the 2 bulk guys that give you length 2-3 times/week -Everyone else fill in wherever Mlod and Dotel aren’t your prototypical “long relievers”, they’re your go to guys in close games like Dotel was used today

@slawdog64 @MarkMaddenX ERA tells an incomplete story. It can’t account for park factors, the defense behind you, or inherited runners scoring after you leave. A pitcher can be filthy and still carry a bloated ERA through no fault of his own. FIP, xERA, and K/BB rate fill in the gaps ERA leaves behind.

So Valdez hits a HR yesterday, a key to their victory and now he sits? Par for the course with Donnie Ball. Plus Kelly puts Konnor Griffin at 7th for some weird reason. I don't think moving a 20 year old rookie all over the damn lineup is sound judgement but what do I know.

The Pirates hold on and beat the Cubs 2-1. The offense is still really struggling but they did enough to win. Something that was reinforced to me watching the game is the Pirates are a better run team WITHOUT Don Kelly on the bench.Leaving Dotel in for 3 innings was a genius move
