Humanity at its finest: Intermarche, Villereal, France, 2010. It's a cold, breezy, autumn day. Yes, the French have them, too. It’s mid way through one of my survive-if-you-can solo months living in France. I've done the shopping, then - carrier bag between teeth (both hands are otherwise occupied) - I wheeled back to the car. After transferring my ass into the Eos, I place the shopping in the passenger footwell and quietly congratulate myself on another outing without a mishap. So far, so good. Self congratulatory moment over, I remove the wheels from the chair and lift them over onto the back seat. The ass protecting seat cushion then joins the shopping in the adjacent footwell. But, just as I’m in the process of lifting the chair body over onto the passenger seat, an elderly lady begins shuffling down the car park, calling out toward me and gesticulating. I think, oops, must've dropped something. But no, I can't have, surely? I leave the car door open as she nears, worried that her legs might fail, for there are few people around, and she could need to help. As she arrives, struggling for breath, I ask her (in my very own, Scots-accented broken French) if everything is okay. But she ignores the question, rounds the door, leans in, and gives me a huge hug. After a few moments, she releases her grip and then proceeds to give me a kiss on either cheek! As she backs away, hands clasped, nodding and chattering enthusiastically in the local dialect, I'm left startled, confused, and blushing.  Suddenly, she turns and shuffles off, back toward where a young woman is stood by her car, shaking her head and smiling. Arms outstretched, the woman gives me an exaggerated gallic shrug. Baffled, I watch her help the elderly figure into the car before making her way over to me, still smiling. She leans toward me and, in fluent English, apologizes profusely for her mother's behaviour. I tell her it isn't a problem and that I have great respect for the elderly. Quickly, she says, "No, no, she is not confused. Not in the least. No, she has often seen you here and in the village and greatly admires your spirit and willingness to manage unaided. She has been determined that one day, if the opportunity arose, she would tell you so." Deeply touched by the gesture, I asked her to explain to her mum that I was married and well looked after by a wife who worked month on, month off in Glasgow to pay for the luxury of our French lifestyle, and my freedoms. As they drove away, the old lady raised a wrinkled hand toward me and smiled warmly. I reciprocated, although I had a tough time not collapsing into a bubbling heap behind the wheel. Among the many wonderful acts of kindness and generosity I've lived through in the past 25 years, this remains the most memorable.

Ireland is a disgrace

This video is less than two minutes long and I implore everyone to watch it. It is indeed rather extraordinary. As Holocaust Awareness Ireland says, Patrick Kielty exhibits utter callousness with respect to the attacks on the Jewish community, astonishingly saying ‘the backdrop of that is obviously the horrors in Gaza, this is a complex thing.’ Boy George remains calm and says ‘if you don’t know any Jewish people maybe that’s the problem.’ He then asks the audience ‘do you know any Jewish people?’ Boy George is visibly taken aback by the ensuing silence, and vocalises his shock twice, remarking that it is ‘weird’ and ‘surprising me a little bit.’ Patrick looks uncomfortable and ends puts an end to the topic with a dismissive ‘mmm’. Extraordinary viewing. Just extraordinary.

In 2014, while Hamas terrorists fired thousands of rockets at Jewish civilians, including kindergartens, Shabana Mahmood, the current UK Home Secretary, stood on stage and openly supported them. She called the rocket-firing Gazans “her brothers and sisters.” She didn’t condemn the Islamic terrorism or call for peace. Instead, she outlined a strategic plan: use Muslims who had immigrated to the West (like her own parents) as an economic weapon against Israel by organizing boycotts of Jewish-made products to financially weaken the Jewish state. She bragged publicly about being part of a riot squad that shut down London stores for five hours until they removed Jewish-made products from Israel. This was never about justice. It was about partnering with genocidal terrorists to help Hamas slaughter more Jews. Shabana Mahmood actively worked to advance Hamas’s genocidal agenda so Muslim terrorists could annihilate Israel and its Jewish population. Today, this same woman is the UK Home Secretary, responsible for the safety of British Jews. Let that sink in. The Muslim woman who sided with Hamas against Israel and plotted to weaken it economically is now in charge of protecting Jewish communities in Britain. This is not just absurd. This is dangerous.
