I've always wanted to know more about Jayne Cortez. Great interview by Alexis Pauline Gumbs.

lareviewofbooks.org/article/firesp… via @lareviewofbooks Cortez felt that Black women could find their voices by USING them. Here & now—despite ridicule, repudiation, & limitation—we could document, remember. The colonizers & enslavers depend upon us to forget. Instead, we can write…

fun fact: Current Affairs specifically encourages pitches from people who have never written for a magazine before! We have published pieces by teens, service workers, prisoners, veterans. We welcome new writers seeking their first publication opportunity! currentaffairs.org/writers-guide

The AI panic and the affordability crisis and the crisis of ambition and the loneliness epidemic are all connected — and tbh, Mamdani gave politicians a model for how to tie it together with “afford to live, afford to dream.” open.substack.com/pub/amandalitm…

The Epstein files changed me forever. I read them in painstaking detail over months, realizing in real time that we are not ruled by laws equally applied. We are ruled by wealth, access, and protection networks. America is a syndicate. I’ll never get over it, so don’t ask me to.

As a veteran community organizer puts it: "No permanent friends; no permanent enemies." MTG is obviously *hugely* problematic. I don't know why she is taking the stance on Israel she is taking. But it is the correct stance. Do I trust her? No. Would I have voted with her? Yes.

They don't have to have solidarity with us and we don't believe either of them do. The question is do they consider genocide a red line, do they object to US tax money arming a genocide and are they okay with Israel controlling the U.S. government

Ryan Grim and Sam Seder “thoroughly demolish” one another over whether AOC or MTG can credibly claim solidarity with Palestinians. @ryangrim | @SamSeder | @majorityfm

Are you tired of the utopian/dystopian AI predictions from CEOs? Do you want to hear what's ACTUALLY happening, from the people it's actually happening TO? If so, I have good news: I felt the same, so I have worn out my shoe-leather & written this book! penguin.co.uk/books/462159...

Being Palestinian diaspora means getting gaslit your entire life. I heard that same exact thing from a teacher when I was this boy's age. My father stormed into my school the next day with his Palestinian passport and a box of land papers in Arabic nobody could read

Sometimes I wonder if one of the reasons why society seems so unwell is that we’ve replaced writing things in journals with posting stuff online. Our personal lives have become a performance, our authenticity becomes a way to capture the algorithm. Journaling is a way to get to know ourselves. To express the things we cannot express anywhere else. Without edits. While performing for the algorithm becomes a way to be seen. When we don’t have unfiltered time to express ourselves without caring about perfecting it afterward, we become strangers to ourselves. The most radical thing we can do is maintain a sense of our own private life, where we have time to get to know ourselves, reflect, learn about ourselves, and without feeling the need to turn what was meant to be sacred into a piece of content.

Did you know that in honour of Nakba Day, Annemarie Jacir’s PALESTINE ’36 will stream free exclusively on Watermelon+ on May 15?! This is an absolutely brilliant and moving MUST-SEE film for the whole family. “A sweeping historical epic on resistance, identity, and liberation.”
