@L_E_Bendon Yeah. No matter what you do we're all at the mercy of luck and each path is really subjective. There's no one size fits all method of success

@scriblotta Querying is stressful. There's so much waiting and it's mostly out of your hands. Self-publishing is challenging because it's all in your hands and yet it feels like there's nothing you can do.

@ZsaffrynTerra I agree with all your points I would also say it comes down to what set of challenges do you want to tackle rather one being "easier"

They’re equally challenging just in different ways. Trad pub requires marketing. It isn’t all done for you, that’s why agents want to see an active social media. I feel like that is often misunderstood. But talented authors who self pub are up against an unfair stigma and that’s only getting worse with the influx of AI novels. But they aren’t up against the industry the way a querying author is. The odds of getting a book trad published is 1-2%. Both are wonderful paths but one is not easier than the other, just different.

@L_Eve_Gale No wait, it can't be that scarlet because that didn't happen in Gone with the wind 😳😅

@ZsaffrynTerra I do think its werid that we don't sync up especially considering all the other hoildays that we collectively share Christmas, Hanukkah, International women/men day, New Years, Earth Day. Why is mother's day the odd one out 🤣

@scriblotta Same. 😅 France’s is at the end of May I learned. I vote we all sync up. Or… we could go above and beyond and make individual Mother’s Day cards that match each nation and really take celebrating to the next level…

Y’all ready for my latest blunder? I saw a TON of Mother’s Day stuff on social media yesterday so I sent my mom a text—I know that’s not much but it’s better than the two year silence we had from 2020-2022. Texting wasn’t the blunder. This is: It wasn’t Mother’s Day in the USA.

@BenDixonAuthor That is on my TBR list. I have only seen the movie. I think the movie really presented a balance between nature and nurture

@scriblotta Perhaps Eva in We Need to Talk About Kevin. She's not evil, just unnatural as a mother which makes everything go off the rails.

@scriblotta It is a book series. …… ….. It’s my book saga. I didn’t know if this was a shameless plug. But I have a mother who abuses her child because of a bunch of underlying problems she caused. It felt worth mentioning. All 6 of my readers agree she is a terrible mother!🤣😭

@v_ananya_ Pretty good example though. I think she literally dumps her daughter so she was her boyfriend can travel or something like that

I think Oh Sangwoo's mother from #KillingStalking by #Koogi. I can't put the most horrific thing she did here (remember its a horror mangwa so don't go looking unless you are prepared) but she did raise a serial killer 🤷🏾‍♀️ so that should speak volumes.

@scriblotta There is a series where a mother constantly mentally/emotionally abuses her son and makes him feel guilty for everything because she feels bad about getting her husband(her son’s father) killed. Everyone I’ve met who’s read the books agrees she’s their most hated character. 🤣

@ManuelRLavado Very true. For me as a writer plot comes first but it seems for most writers its characters that come first which has been very interesting to see in others responses

@scriblotta Without a solid plot and narrative structure, a character will never encounter a dilemma important enough to reveal their personality or the contrast between their words and their actions.

@LA_Knight89 Don't worry about it 😁 you've made a lot of good points. For me as a plot driven writer characters were always sort of a secondary thought. Even in my own novel my MC/LI are still pretty much who they are at the start but the development is in the romance
