Been writing a lot of raw SQL these days and I must say it's a lot of fun.

@alvaro_montoro Not sure. Every AI written article may add this. Even if you uploaded a video showing how you typed that article... Could be AI generated as well. 🤷

@ethanniser I really wish Typescript would actually be a... typed language. The "any" type was already a mistake. The return type of the fetch function should be "unknown". And of course when the language you build on can throw everything, the catched thing should also be of type "unknown".

this is pretty crazy to me react query just lies about the error type and this was an intentional change too! so you think its safe to call `useQuery().error.message` but it can 100% blow up I don't understand why asking users to do `unknown instanceof Error` was too much

I always thought `.length` was read-only 🙈

@joyofcodedev That's nice. You can also try numbers.length = -1 or "hi" or 10. The first two give range errors (good!), the third one adds empty items in the end (okay).

@mootoday Seems complicated... Collecting user feedback is a good alternative here 😅

@LeaVerou @karger 💡 Oh and actually I did that with my CV not too long ago. I started to write a new one with LaTeX, but discarded that idea quickly. With HTML and CSS it was so much better to write and design it. Also, I finally used Git for documents as well. Much better than cv-final-v2.tex 😅

@LeaVerou @karger When I wrote my thesis in 2013, I was a full-blown LaTeX expert and didn't know much about HTML and CSS. Today I would definitely use HTML and CSS for everything. You have just so many more options and more control, and the content is much better separated from its styling.

#phdlife @karger: Don’t do it! Once you have the ability to write CSS, you will spend ages tweaking the formatting! Me: I will not! It will look as close as possible to a LaTeX document, really! Also Me:

My PhD advisor, @karger: “If you do your thesis in Markdown, HTML, and CSS¹ it will be 10x the work!” Me: “Yes, but it will entail 1/100th of the procrastination!” Kids, …we were both right. 🥴 ¹ as opposed to LaTeX, which is the gold standard in our field.

It boggles my mind how terrible Windows explorer search is. I have an app that I know is installed. Tap windows key, type in app. No results except for a web page. It’s 2024. How is searching for LOCAL FILES this terrible.
