Coming in strong with a Terrific Tuesday staff introduction for our new J. Frank Dobie Jr. High art teacher! Alicia De Leon is an artist and educator born in El Salvador and raised in Santa Ana, California. She earned a degree in Studio Art from UCLA and later pursued a degree in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her artistic practice centers on 3-D mediums and experiential art, often integrating multiple content areas into a dynamic and interdisciplinary curriculum. Known by students as fair and laid-back—but with consistently high expectations—Mrs. De Leon brings both structure and creativity into the learning environment. This summer, her aesthetic leans into Sesame Street and splash pads, while her current hobbies include resin-casting and mastering the art of negotiation with a toddler. Welcome to SCUC! #YouBelongHere #WeAreSCUC #SCUCArtInspires

It’s a Marvelous Monday to welcome Amanda Rodriguez as the new Orchestra Director at Dobie Junior High! Mrs. Rodriguez moved to Schertz in 2018 and is excited to now teach in the community she calls home. Her love for orchestra began in fifth grade in Houston, Texas, and led her to earn a degree in music education from Southwestern University. Since 2004, she has taught in public schools and stayed active in the music world through community ensembles and orchestras. She loves teaching middle schoolers and finds joy in helping students grow through music. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, board games, and spending time with her family. She’s looking forward to a fun and meaningful year at Dobie! #SCUCMusicMatters #YouBelongHere #WeAreSCUC

Congratulations are in order for the students, and gratitude is extended to Clemens Orchestra Director Jennifer Tudyk for her sponsorship and tireless efforts in fostering the club's success. Congratulations!!!! We did it! SCUCISD has been recognized as a Best Community for Music Education from the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation Let’s celebrate the district’s dedication to music education for ALL students! SCUC ISD has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for their outstanding support and commitment to music education. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, SCUC answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by the leading arts educational research firm, WolfBrown. This is the eighth time SCUC has received this award. This achievement was made possible because of the collective efforts of all our music teachers - K-12, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders — each of you has played an essential role in making music a vital part of a well-rounded education for every child. Your commitment to excellence and to creating meaningful, inspiring experiences for our students truly sets SCUC apart. We have the best community, parents, students, and teachers! Congratulations to All!

It was a Fantastic Friday for our Dobie Junior High Honor Band, who competed at the American Classic Bluebonnet Music Festival held at Seguin High School. Despite stiff competition, the Dobie Honor Band emerged with major accolades: a First Division rating, an Outstanding Performance award, and the coveted Best in Festival award. Clarinetist EJ Daniel also earned individual recognition, being named Outstanding Soloist at the festival. EJ is featured as a soloist on the band’s performance of Robert Sheldon’s Appalachian Morning. Congratulations EJ, Dobie Honor Band students, and directors John Robertson and Russell Barbee! Local fans can hear the Dobie Honor Band, along with three other Dobie bands, at the annual Spring Concert on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Steele High School Auditorium. #hardworkpaysoff #scucmusicchangeslives
