Tesla AI Sr. Staff Engineer says Tesla has implemented a new software based Auto-Wiper system that uses the wiper motor itself as a tactile sensor. Instead of relying solely on the front cameras, the system estimates the physical friction between the rubber wiper blade and the glass by analyzing the motor’s electrical power consumption. The system will also automatically enable the defroster when high friction is detected, such as frost or ice. Additionally, it keeps a long-term friction level average to warn when wiper replacements are necessary due to higher than normal friction. Smart stuff! I suspect this system will get better over time with OTA updates.

@JoeLobotka @YesSirThatIsMe @AGdrfarrar @engineers_feed In real life, you can’t counter the forward motion with ground motion. You need something that acts directly on the axis, not on the free spinning wheels. Unless you add more friction with say… brakes. But that changes the problem entirely.

@YesSirThatIsMe @AGdrfarrar @engineers_feed Yeah, that’s why I say it’s unicorn piss treadmill. Its force and speed would almost need to be infinite, but according to the constraints of the problem, that’s what it does.

The engines are applying tens of thousands of pounds of forward thrust against the air. The wheels are free-spinning bearings. If the treadmill moves backward, the ONLY way it can pull the plane backward is through the friction inside the wheel bearing. Does a wheel bearing generate 50,000 lbs of friction? Nope. Thrust vastly overpowers friction, and the plane moves forward relative to the air.

@engineers_feed It would not lift. Engines thrust creates forward motion —> which forces air around the wings —> which create lift. The unicorn piss treadmill proposed nullifies all forward motion by design, with cancels the entire chain of effect.

Space gets “stretched inwards” in a black hole, there’s a lot of space inside of them and everything that’s sucked into them is still there. At some point the space gets stretched at a speed faster than what the light can travel at, so light is trapped, travelling outwards forever in an ever expanding space.
