The @UgandaUN hosted a high-level side event on Uganda–Canada Partnerships: Advancing HIV Cure Research, Health Innovation, & Industrial Capacity at Uganda House, New York. The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister @R_Nabbanja opened the dialogue, reaffirming Uganda's commitment to the #SDGs & underscored the value of strategic partnerships in advancing equitable #HIV cure research. Dr. Cissy Kityo, Executive Director of the @jcrc_official1 , presented the Immuno-Equity initiative, which aims to develop an affordable & accessible HIV cure through a collaborative approach that prioritizes equity & local manufacturing. Panelists including MP for London West, Ontario, @KayabagaArielle , Dr. Eric Arts, Dr. Robert Ssekitoleko, & Dr. Jim Lacefield discussed scientific advances, technological transfer opportunities, & the importance of designing innovations for low-resource contexts.

UGANDA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH @WesternU UNIVERSITY OF LONDON, ONTARIO-CANADA HOSTED A SIDE EVENT ON THE SIDELINES OF THE HIGH LEVEL POLITICAL FORUM TAKING PLACE IN NEW YORK, JULY 14, 2026* The Side Event on Uganda–Canada Partnerships Advancing HIV Cure Research, Health Innovation and Industrial Capacity was officially opened by the Rt.Hon. @RobinahNabbanja, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda. In her remarks, she thanked Uganda's Missions in New York and Ottawa, Western University in London, Ontario and all the participants and affirmed that her Office had the constitutional responsibility to coordinate Government business and to oversee Uganda's coordination of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. and thus, she attached great importance to such initiatives. She expressed pride in partnership with Western University in Canada and other institutions in advancing research towards an affordable, accessible and equitable HIV cure. As the 2030 deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approaches, we brought together key stakeholders today to review progress towards achieving the SDGs. 𝐈𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐝: ~SDGs are integrated into the National Development Plans ~Most SDG targets are aligned with government programmes 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝟐𝟎𝟑𝟎: ~Improve SDG data reporting and data quality ~Integrate SDG indicators into the National Development Plan Monitoring and Evaluation Framework ~Explore innovative financing options for government programmes ~Closer collaboration across government institutions and the private sector The meeting was opened by the Permanent Secretary responsible for Policy Coordination, Mr Julius Victor Nkeramihigo, and chaired by the Commissioner for Monitoring and Evaluation (Central Government), Mr Timothy Lubanga. The Head of the @sdgs_ug Dr Albert Byamugisha, and other technical officers also attended the meeting.
