I have a patient who is 102 years old. She told me that in every family, you’ll have someone who’s blessed and someone who’s cursed. The blessed one will never have to attend anyone’s funeral. The cursed one will attend everyone’s funeral. She didn’t think the cursed one would be her. She is the second oldest child among her siblings.
She outlived 2 husbands, all 5 of her siblings, all 4 of her children and their spouse. 2 grandchildren. She is living with one of her grandchild who and is being cared for by her great granddaughter.
She was in the hospital for an infection and so was her great granddaughter. They were in the same room, but the great granddaughter was doing much worse and there were times they thought she would have to go into the ICU. She prayed she would not have to bury a great granddaughter as well. Especially the one taking care of her.

One of my lung cancer patients just died.
Reading his obituary I found out he was the preceded in death by 3 of his siblings.
To be clear … he became my patient because his *90 yo mom* is my patient. She has survived two cancers including stage I lung herself (former smoker!)
She and her husband are still alive.
They’ve outlived four of their kids.
That hits hard when you’re a parent. I don’t care how old you are

This JAMA study found that "AI scribe adoption was associated with modest decreases in total EHR time and documentation time and with a modest increase in weekly visit volume." In detail, the modest decreases really mean: 1) 13.4 fewer minutes of EHR time per visit 2) 16.0 fewer minutes of documentation time 3) and 0.49 additional weekly visits delivered 4) EHR time outside work hours did not change significantly!
