I craft software that connects apps to data. I connect systems together with #DataSyncStudio

@kareem_carr I mostly discard anything AI produces as it’s garbage. It’s good for discussing options and discovering how to approach a problem but rarely creates anything that works.

I keep hearing that software engineers don’t write much code anymore and it’s mostly AI now. Can any software engineers confirm how true this is? Do you just drink coffee and watch Claude code all day now?

I've had a go with .NET10 and DataSync which runs but I'm still blocked with no way out that doesn't involve major changes due to Data Sync support for Plugins and .NET Core Assembly binding not being very flexible.

What .Net library would you recommend for working with Excel documents? I'm leaning towards ClosedXML but would love to hear from anyone with long term feedback.

@mkristensen Rarely so wouldn’t complain if it was no longer possible. Does look cleaner without tbh.

Do you ever expand .cs file nodes in Solution Explorer to peek at the types and members inside? The second picture shows the same solution but without the expanders visible for comparison. Which do you prefer?

@mkristensen Multi targeting (Framework & .NET) builds are quite slow would be great if there were options to choose which targets to build rather than have lots of conditional settings in csproj files.

What are some actions you take in Visual Studio that makes you think performance should be improved? I'll start: installing extensions takes longer than I think it ought to.

Tried Copoilot in Visual Studio. It's so annoying gets in the way all the time. The old VS suggestions stop working and then it keeps suggesting stupid irrelevent completions. Can we stop forcing AI on everything.

So I got it working ... Ouvvi+Agent running in a Docker Container on .NET8. Running on a small Linux machine here I am running it on my old Synology 218+ NAS box. With Tailscale providing SSL via Tailscale Serve.

Interesting experiment today been working on a .NET8 version of Ouvvi(WFE). Just had all bits together to create a linux docker image and deploy to my old Synology NAS and use Tailscale to expose over my Tailnet with TLS enabled.

@davidfowl Ouvvi does build on local server exports to S3 then Ouvvi Agent on deployment server downloads S3 package with DataSync and custom Ouvvi IIS handler does a file diff to deploy.

You know what I like about .Net Framework vs .Net Core? It’s not out of support the moment you deploy.

@traskjd It’s great when the customer describes why the feature will help them this way we can understand the requirement better and deliver a better product.

@seancleaver 💪 Love this - and the type of speed we like to show off too (always helpful when the request is pretty tight, but hey!). Well done!

Yesterday a customer requested a new feature to be added to DataSync. Today new feature delivered. Got to love that turn around.

Trying something new ... create your Data Integration pipeline for DataSync with Visual Studio. Control the execution pipeline to handle things like Loops etc then compile down to an exe/service with full source control of both project files and process.

As announced for the last few years, we are removing BinaryFormatter in .NET 9. Have you already stopped using it? If not, why? Is there any feedback that you want to share?

Tried the #1BRC challenge in DataSyncStudio .NETCore version using Dynamic columns to aggregate the 1B rows and output a nice Dataset you can sync to SQL etc runs in 4m10sec on an i7 11g laptop (XPS).
