Plenty of meeting last week, with the big focus on agriculture! Was good to get some meetings in and hear the opinions of @IFAmedia, and also great to meet the Minister for Agriculture of Czechia. Then yesterday, I got to attend and speak at the EPAS Schools awards ceremony. Always inspiring to see so many young people taking an interest in the EU!

A good week here in Strasbourg, with lots of important issues discussed First amongst those was getting support for a European Coco's Law, criminalising the scourge of cyberbullying and preventing tragic stories like that of the inspiring Jackie Fox, whose daughter Nicole took her own life. We also discussed the threat caused by China and their export dominance, which underlined why we must promote European industry, if we are to become strategically independent. Plenty done, but lots more to do!

Ryan Cornelius, who celebrated his 72nd birthday yesterday, has been arbitrarily detained for the last 18 years. I reminded my colleagues that the European Parliament voted for him to be freed urgently, and call on them to raise his case during negotiations with the UAE. He was imprisoned in 2008 on charges of fraud, and despite the seizure of all of his properties and assets, which are above the value of the money he supposedly owed, his detention has continued, even though the law in the UAE is to free prisoners over the age of 70. Free Ryan Cornelius, free him now

Ireland has shown how targeted legislation can protect children online and deliver justice. Now, it’s Europe’s turn. Thanks to the so-called ‘Coco’s Law’, over 1,860 harmful communication incidents have been recorded since 2023 in Ireland, with more than 400 charges and summonses issued. This is clear proof that when you put ‘teeth’ into legislation and implement it, it delivers results! Europe must now take note of these best practices and make them a priority. It’s time for hard laws that criminalise online bullying, not just soft recommendations. Let’s make ‘Coco’s Law’ a European law.

Plenty on the agenda for this week's European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg! I'm particularly happy to see a debate on an EU-wide Coco's law. We need the Commission to come forward with a proposal to criminalise cyberbullying, just as Jackie Fox called for so powerfully last month. We'll also discuss the EU's response to the conflict in the Middle East and policy options available to deal with the fallout, such as high energy and fertiliser costs

It was a great honour to attend a mass and a papal audience hosted by his Holiness Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican City on Saturday as part of the @EPP study visit to Rome. Truly a great event which will live long in the memory!

I told @lukeming sometime ago , that @RoscommonGAA were a far better team than they were credited as . As I only got back from Rome , ( meeting @Pontifex ) & will be leaving @2am tonight, for @Europarl_EN #Strasbourg , I didn’t go to @gaamunster hurling games today . Watched @RTE2 . Hurling was brilliant, as always . Roscommon were heroic .They really took game to @MayoGAA in 2nd. half & were full value for their win . Great to see small counties like @WaterfordGAA & @RoscommonGAA punching away above their weight !! Bravo ! 👏 👏

Busy week here in Brussels! Alongside my work in @EPP meetings getting ready for next week's plenary session in Strasbourg, I had the chance to have a number of productive meetings I spoke with Triona McCormack from UCD to discuss the role of Science in the Irish EU presidency. I met with a group of Irish journalists on Tuesday and cultural leaders on Wednesday, fielding questions and discussing simplification, culture, and showcasing the best of Ireland in the next year. And finally, I got to catch up with Mary and Rob, two members of Fine Gael who were over for the Brussels FG launch evening for the Irish presidency. Always good to mix it up between the meetings!
