@HibernianSea @BenjBenAvraham Very interested to hear why Dicuil’s multiple references to “Insulis Brittanicis” don’t count.

@BenjBenAvraham No evidence it was used by the indigenous people of these islands in either the Iron or early Medieval Ages.

@crowley_gavin @majingxiong @jhallwood So forgotten that Isidore of Seville was calling them by that name in the 7th Century, as was Al-Battānī in the 9th century, along with tons of others. Even Dicuil, an Irishman, was using it around that time.

@majingxiong @jhallwood And then forgotten for 2000 years. And then coined as a political tool by the Tudors and used for solely political purposes ever since. They could just as easily have picked Stannic, or Thule or Hy Brasil.

@seanly_not @BillTheKid1603 We already went over this, the combined British & French industrial production & populations dwarfed the German one & they did not have 3 main fronts open all at once like Germany

@seanly_not @butter_swadian @BillTheKid1603 That is because you are a pityful idiot, had England fought a 1v1 on harsh mountain terrain against an overall larger/more industrialised nation, being about to break their line in 2 yrs & definitely doing in 3, you lot would be huffing your farts even more than you do now.

@seanly_not @butter_swadian @BillTheKid1603 Yeah they really had an objectively crap performance, being bogged down 4 yrs in against an outnumbered/outgunned enemy that you're tackling in a 2v1 while they are also managing 3 fronts is a shite performance no matter how you spin it rotfl

@bvllemajvlius @BillTheKid1603 Britain = an island with basically no army in 1914. Germany = the biggest industrial nation on earth, throwing its entire weight into the French front. ????

@seanly_not @BillTheKid1603 Britain and France combined had a much larger population, industry, arms production etc than Germany and unlike Germany could even focus their almost undivided attention to one major front, on much easier terrain than the Alps and Carso.

@bvllemajvlius @butter_swadian @BillTheKid1603 Don’t think in any world the British had a shitty performance. By 1918 the British army was literally the best fighting force on the planet. You’re not winning the 100 days offensive with a load of Italians lmao

@butter_swadian @BillTheKid1603 Ok so we can agree on the fact the British army had a shitty performance while their navy a decent one- still idk man, their losses at Jutland against the German navy were quite embarassing- but overall, fair play here.

@bvllemajvlius @BillTheKid1603 Not to mention that it was the British naval blockade that was the single biggest reason the Germans eventually surrendered.

@seanly_not @BillTheKid1603 Italy had a smaller population, industrial production & army than AH Ofc AH was fighting on 3 fronts but so was Germany And the terrain on the Italian front was much rougher than anything England faced, & AH could afford to play mostly defensively unlike Germany that had to press

@bvllemajvlius @BillTheKid1603 The Italians literally were fighting well over 2:1 when they advanced to the Isonzo lol. They outnumbered Austria by far for the entire war

@BillTheKid1603 It really did. Had Italy been fighting a 2 V 1 on flatands against an enemy they outnumbered/outgunned/outproduced and were still stuck 4 years in until America saved the day, would you be as charitable to them as you are to England and their objectively pisspoor performance?

@XLilliputian @leap_dog Most of those places are not considered overseas. As they are in same continent and not located too far from their home countries. Britains case for Falkland is a remanance of its colonial past. And most ppl who r against colonisation find it unjust.

it's interesting how argentine settler colonial nationalism somehow gets treated like anti-colonial nationalism. like it's basically just australian nationalism if australia floundered economically post-ww2. why are treating these things so differently.
