Jason Arday, the youngest ever black professor at the university, admitted a series of errors in his work, saying that he was accountable for those mistakes but “what I am not is a liar” #Echobox=1785532116" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">thetimes.com/uk/education/a…

My second daughter turns 100 days old this week. For 25 of those days the temperature has exceeded 30°C somewhere in Britain. She has spent a quarter of her life experiencing a heat that, in the past, it would only have been possible to feel if her parents were prepared to negotiate an airport and short-haul flight. In London, where we live, only seven days have been colder than 15°C. This is not normal. Wildfires are raging across our continent: as I write, a fire the size of the Isle of Wight is burning outside Bordeaux and hundreds of thousands of people are being evacuated. Strategic military aircraft are water bombing for the first time in their operational history. The ground is burning in North Wales. This. Is. Not. Normal. @OliDugmore: Supporting North Sea drilling is an extremist position newstatesman.com/comment/2026/0…

Andy Burnham has said carers should be the best-paid workers in society. Follow the latest updates as he gives a speech on Britain’s social care crisis here ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/…

No they shouldn't. They do important work and it's often unpleasant, but it's largely unskilled labour. It's great that Burnham is taking social care seriously, but gov should be investing in tech & AI where there is real potential to improve quality AND ultimately reduce costs.

EXC: Officials have worked up plans for a new 1.8% income tax to fund Andy Burnham’s social care reforms. The Health Department is looking at proposals by Re:State, a Burnham-linked think tank, which suggests a new “social insurance” model. Civil servants commissioned expert advice on the idea after access talks with Burnham’s team. The plan would involve mandatory contributions on income over £6,240 for workers over the age of 34. The money would be invested and used to pay for the care of each cohort when they reach old age, and would be topped up by contributions from wealthier pensioners. No10 says Burnham won’t decide how to fund his plans until after an accelerated Casey review is published, but this idea is in the mix — alongside the “death tax” estate levy reported last week.

Anyone on around £50k loses £793 a year. A senior nurse. A police sergeant. An experienced teacher. The Prime Minister has mentioned the cost of living repeatedly, so higher tax shouldn't be the approach. @TheSun social care levy calculator: thesun.co.uk/money/39903031…
