Check for ticks after spending time outdoors— even in your own backyard. Tick bites can spread germs that cause illness, including Lyme disease, which is most common in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic, and upper Midwest. Not only is May Lyme Disease Awareness Month, but it is also the start of the peak season for blacklegged (deer) tick nymphs. Nymphs emerge in spring, with their peak activity from May to July.
