FWIW this is HSI (Hong Kong's benchmark index) weekly chart from 2002 until now. I was trading only this market from 2002 to 2020 for about 18 years, before migrating to US market. I earned my first million (HKD) by luck on the left side of this chart especially in the 2007 bull market, then gave back a few millions in subsequent years in the bear markets and chops. That must be a few years of family savings. As you can see this market is very choppy, with a few bear markets in the range. The latest bear market lasted 6 years from 2018-2024. Big ones are -60ish% and -50ish, two other medium ones are like -35%, and there are a few more mini crashes in the magnitude of 10-20%. And this is just the general index, on individual stock level, the market is easily manipulated due to the small liquidity. On positive notes, Hong Kong market does build up one's mental resilience if he managed to survive, and in comparison the US market is a lot more forgiving (if you don't do anything stupid like fighting the trend in 2022 which I did). Today, I still find this market hard to trade. And seriously I don't think some of you can adapt and survive here. Things might change in the future, but meanwhile it is advisable to stay away from this market unless you want to up the challenge for yourself.
