Alienation has to be the most uninteresting critiques of capitalism we should stick to market instability stability/irrationality and inequality. I think alienation is actually the best argument for saying we mistake a critique of modernity for capitalism.
Jensen Suther@jensensuther

One of the most influential and widely deployed notions in Marx is also perhaps the most obscure: alienation. It has been understood as the falling away from a species-essence; as a normative neutral notion of self-externalization through work; and more recently… 1/

@Menenhetet_X @NewSweezyite The Chilean experience? Very interesting concept, unsure how it would have developed. Probably wouldn't have solved all the issues as I think it was trying to do too much at once

the problem of the calculation debate is like more than half of it assumes that imitating equilibrium prices is the goal of socialism or equals "need"

@Menenhetet_X @NewSweezyite Very much agreed, part of it can be solved with "big computer" (consumer preferences through some stuff like Google maps rating) but the bits where competition is necessary to for preferences to develop I'm unsure. Also Schumpeter's creative destruction is hard to envision

@PinstripeBungle Afaik not many tours of that style in Spain. Mostly left parties sometimes put them on, but considering most Spanish politically active people don't speak English they wouldn't be these kind of things available. A lot have questionable narration too.

many of the historical walking tours seem to be 1) quite expensive and 2) seem to be very vague "exploring a complicated and painful past" type things. I'm looking more for "this is where another francoist minister got yeeted into space"

do I know anybody on here who can recommend radical history/civil war history walking tours for Barcelona or Madrid? I know Madrid has a siege frontline route but I imagine Barcelona also has amazing stuff. huge bonus if these are political education projects not "history" walks.

@biff_kev Nowadays I'd say we read a lot on integrated business management but not enough on how the market deals with information and how to construct alternatives to it- my summer project rn is two econ books

@biff_kev We've moved quite a bit beyond the models of Cockshott tbh. I've recently been looking over agent models etc but I'm not fully convinced- at the end of the day I'm more of a "show me the practice" kinda person

Slowly making my way through the other Welsh Williams - really a wonderful short exploration of Goya in the context of Spain at the turn of the 1800s Might take the time to write something on Gwyn’s wider work
