Can you reduce your home cost by living with others? Can you grow some of your food or at least learn to make cheaper food? Can you live w/o a car? There are many things you can do early on to reduce cost and allow you to save. I bet if he shared his costs and habits with us, there would be plenty of things he could do.

@Kristinartz If not married, I'd downgrade to a FWB and tell her that. If married with no kids, I'd begin the process of divorce. If married with kids, probably the same but more open to working it out. Most likely divorce.

I grew up with 4 older sisters all of whom were servers at some point. I tip well. I also typically sit at the bar for better service. I'd prefer not to use up a whole table for just one or two people. Length of stay, cost and server's performance all go into the calculation.....or they should.

We went out to dinner with a group of five, and by the end of the night the bill was right around $577 and change. When it came time to pay, we left a $60 tip because we felt like that was a fair amount and wanted to leave something extra for the service. What I didn’t expect was the server making a comment that she was expecting closer to $120. And no, it didn’t come across like some light little joke either. The tone felt serious, the moment got awkward fast, and suddenly we were standing there feeling uncomfortable over a tip we had already chosen to leave in the first place. When we pushed back and mentioned possibly talking to a manager, that’s when the story suddenly changed to “I was just kidding.” But let’s be real — not every rude comment magically becomes a joke just because someone gets called out on it. The whole thing left us feeling weird and honestly kind of embarrassed, because we weren’t trying to short anybody. We tipped what we thought was reasonable, and being confronted like that completely changed the vibe of the night. So now I’m curious — was $60 on a $577 bill really that unreasonable, or would most people also think asking for $120 was way out of line?🙄🙄 By Martha Barker

@Mr_Husky1 Not enough info. How long was the stay? Were you a difficult party.....ie....lot of special orders, complaints, returns etc....? Did the server do well or even better or worse. Just on the info I have, 60 on a 577 bill seems lite but I can't say for sure.

@Moonlight_myths $600 per month is cheap. You get all utilities free and probably get access to other areas of her property. Does she do your laundry? Clean up after you? You say you pay for your own food. Do you never eat with her? Do you use her fridge? etc................

My mom got mad when I told her I would rather live on my own that keep paying her $600 a month in rent. I'm 25 years old and have been paying $60 a week in rent to my parents for a while now. I recently landed a decent paying job and this morning, I received a message from my mom telling me that from now on, the rent would be $150 per week. I text her back, saying I would rather live elsewhere. I pay for my own food and I'm not willing to pay $150 per week just for a room to sleep in at my own mothers house. With that kind if money, I could rent a small apartment or even split the rent with a friend for less.
