This common-sense safety measure saw rare bi-partisan support in the legislature, and we commend California lawmakers for taking a stand for safety in all of our state's hospitals. Millions of people who work at or seek care in hospitals will now be more safe.

The bill also requires that searches of patients' belongings may not be carried out by #Nurses or other healthcare workers. Instead, trained personnel must be assigned to screening. This provision allows healthcare workers to focus on providing compassionate care, not policing.
