One of the reasons I left Japan is the cost of living. It’s tough here in the US too, but so much easier than Japan. I honestly don’t know how I would’ve managed if it weren’t for some of the income I got in USD.

Why do people who do not earn in yen or pay Japanese taxes insist on telling us how cheap Japan is Also if you're a high earner and can afford to eat out everyday, well good for you but that is not the case for many, dare I say most people in Japan.

Light skin does not equal Brahmin or upper caste. It typically refers to the region/ethnicity they are from.

@gurensmahiru Yes, I grew up in the countryside in Okayama and lived in Tokyo, so I felt it firsthand.
On top of school loans I had to pay in usd, I also had my medical bills. ¥500万 while living in Tokyo was not enough. I was lucky to have some income in usd.

@seiun_star But in all seriousness my understanding is that living in Japan is hard and a lot of ppl who do move into the country don’t understand that and kinda get bulldozed by cost of living versus wages once they’re there 😭

@RaraSensei NJ. It’s a bit more expensive, but my current job pays way more than my old one. I have to pay student loans in usd bc I went to uni in the US and had medical bills due to a serious health condition. For reference, I was making around 500万 not including my income that was in usd

@Deicide_Rose A company I worked for in college would force everyone’s wallpaper to be the pride flag all of June and do pride themed events every week and gave men’s mental health 1 $5 dress down Friday where proceeds go to a mental health organization.
I will support this company til I die.

Cause people are always trying to REPLACE Pride Month with one instead of acknowledging both. It's always "it's NOT Pride Month it's men's mental health month" "it's NOT Pride Month it's veteran's month"(when it's not even veteran's month)

@RaraSensei @yuquitaz That’s literally how I relearned Japanese when I moved back to Japan. I would mark down words I didn’t know in work documents and made a guide. The more I kept seeing those words, the better I remembered them. I would even read news articles to expand my vocab and grammar.

Nah, @yuquitaz is suggesting what experts in second-language acquisition recommend. Particularly Krashen, who showed that reading leads to subconscious acquisition of vocabulary and is VASTLY more effective than the conscious learning done in studying (cont)
