If we ever implemented congestion pricing in DC, it would be a regional decision. Why would regional elected officials vote to give veto power over their right to do so to members of Congress from Pennsylvania, Florida, California, etc.? Keep this authority within the DMV
Tommy Wells 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️@TommyWells

Congestion pricing should be regionally implemented. DMV traffic congestion is annually ranked #1 or #2 in the nation. Funds to be used for Metro - a regional responsibility.

If the Height Act protected DC from huge Trump egomaniacal projects, as some have claimed, why is the Trump Arch moving forward? This is a ridiculous talking point that has no basis in reality. The Height Act only takes rights away from DC, it does not protect us
The Washington Post@washingtonpost

A federal arts commission voted to approve designs for President Trump’s planned 250-foot triumphal arch, advancing the project despite public opposition. wapo.st/4dBUJt8

Most of the analysis around adoption of autonomous vehicles, for example, finds a huge increase in congestion that most agree would best be solved by congestion pricing. Who knows what the future holds--taking this vote is playing a dangerous game with your community

DC does not do congestion pricing, so this whole thing is a waste of time. But it's possible that in the future the region will come together and decide it would make sense (DC would never go it alone). Why would DC-area legislators vote to ban themselves from having the option?
Zach Israel@ZachBIsrael

The House Oversight Committee today marked up and voted to approve the "DC Rejecting Oppressive Automotive Driving Surcharges (ROADS) Act" (H.R. 8801) by a vote of 22-18, with two House Democrats (from MD & VA) joining the GOP majority in supporting the legislation:

As usual, the federal government is putting on a show with no indication they’re going to be able to get convictions. This plus the 1,000+ new National Guard troops being sent to stand around in DC and do nothing amounts to a huge waste of your taxpayer dollars for no impact
Katie Barlow@katieleebarlow

Noteworthy that this section of the DC Code requires a triggering event (like truancy or drug possession), and it’s not readily apparent that it would be applicable for a civil curfew violation. Indeed it specifically exempts civil disobedience. @fox5dc

I am extremely concerned with the agreement announced over East Potomac Golf Course. This proposal appears set to exclude the majority of Washingtonians from this essential public space. If the proposal does what we fear, I will work hard to make sure it is killed
Joe Heim@JoeHeim

Those who love this D.C. park fear Trump’s golf proposal will push them out wapo.st/3PicTrM "Everything can't be exclusive," one park regular said. "You have to leave something to the people."

The leading candidates for DC Delegate all agree--DC needs to better support our Statehood Delegation! If you support the fight for DC statehood, submit testimony at bit.ly/fundstatehood to ask the Council to increase the Statehood Delegation’s funding by $100K for FY27

The federal restriction on how tall buildings can be in DC is a colonial attack on Washingtonians’ right to decide for ourselves what our housing policy should be. Supporting the federal Height Act is opposing DC Home Rule
Alex Koma@AlexKomaDC

Perhaps our most interesting q so far was a direct yes or no: do you support the Height Act? Kenyan McDuffie, Gary Goodweather and Rini Sampath were all no's, Ernest Johnson, Hope Solomon and Vincent Orange all say yes.

2/ If achieving DC statehood is a shared priority, DC government’s budget should reflect that reality. Now more than ever. If you’re for statehood, let your voice be heard. You can register to testify in person or to watch the hearing in real time, but if you can't make it

1/ The proposed budget for the New Columbia Statehood Commission is $266,883 for FY27 –a 0% increase from FY26. Factoring in inflation, this is a net decrease of 14.9% in our budget since its creation in FY15. I am asking the DC Council to increase our budget by $100K

The destructive Callais decision makes it clear: Congress must ban partisan gerrymandering. If Republicans won't agree, then when Democrats win power they should create an exception to the filibuster to pass this ban and pass DC statehood to revitalize our democracy

I had a great time celebrating Emancipation Day today! But I cannot ignore the irony that enslaved persons were “FIRST FREE” in the District, but plurality Black DC residents are “LAST FREED” in regard to equal democratic rights in their federal legislature. We need #DCStatehood

This Republican Congress has been historically dysfunctional & does not know how to pass budgets. I am confident that this far-right FY 27 Financial Services  & General Gov’t budget proposal is headed straight for the trash. I will do everything I can to make that a reality (3/3)

It is one of over a dozen attacks Republicans are trying to impose on DC through the federal budget. The proposal also cuts funding for DC public schools, forces us to accept extreme gun laws, and prevents us from making our own decisions about the issues we care about (2/3)
