ps:
Why is the ticker #熊猫头 instead of $biao or $biaoqing?
From “表情” to “Biaoqing”
Literally: Biaoqing is the pinyin (Romanization) of the Chinese word “表情”, which means “facial expression.”
Semantic Evolution:
In everyday Chinese, biaoqing originally referred to facial movements or expressions. But in internet culture, it evolved into the general term for 表情包 — sticker packs, reaction images, and memes. The classic “熊猫头” style (black-and-white border + exaggerated facial expressions) became the core visual signature of Chinese emoji/sticker culture. As 熊猫头 memes exploded in popularity and became the undisputed king of “dou tu” (sticker battles), many people started associating the entire category of biaoqing directly with the 熊猫头 image. Over time, the generic term “Biaoqing” was mistakenly treated as the specific name for this panda-faced meme. That’s why the PandaHead effectively “owned” the word.
Why “Biaoqing” became “Biao”
For speed in fast-paced chats and sticker fights, people shortened the two-syllable biaoqing into the single syllable biao.
In reality, biao and biaoqing mean the same thing — biao is simply the abbreviation of biaoqing. Since biaoqing is a category name, both terms refer to the same cultural phenomenon. This is exactly why you see tokens called $biao or $biaoqing
Choosing the original Chinese name #熊猫头 is itself a deliberate cultural stance. This meme was born and raised in the Chinese internet — it doesn’t need translation. The 熊猫头 has transcended being just a picture. It has become a cultural symbol representing Chinese internet emotion, humor, and online expression. It successfully “occupied” people’s mental association with biaoqing — a phenomenon marketers call genericide
熊猫头 didn’t just win the meme war — it became the face of an entire internet culture. That’s why its ticker proudly stays in Chinese.
