In his instruction in the elements of the art of astrology, Al Biruni states that, according to the Greeks and Persians, the Dragon's Head and Tail are exalted at 3° Gemini and 3° Sagittarius respectively. He doesn't offer any rationale for why this, but I think I have a hunch.

Sagittarius is a sacred fire, one kindled to keep out the dark. It’s the hearthfire where we warm our hands, the campfire around which we’ve shared meals and spun stories for thousands of years. It is a focal flame that coheres human culture and inspires hope in the coldest days.

@dorjepadma That's a parallel I had never considered. If we play with that thought and draw upon the Myth of Er, perhaps we could see the Empyrean realms as analogous to the Sambhogakaya as well then? That's an interesting thought I'm going to chew over more today.

@serpentstar93 Totally. View is cutting through the reification of object and subject as being permanent. For me, the object of practice is my own habits. An interesting question is is "soul" equal to "Kaya" or body. Such as Nirmanakaya or Trul Ku being "Form Body. " what do you think?

It is important that those who call themselves astrologers have a philosophical context for why they believe astrology works, whether that is neo-scientific or neo-platonic.

@dorjepadma Y'know there's that metaphor for encountering the Dharma to a turtle poking its head up through a hollow in a log in the ocean. It's so rare. I'm just grateful that I had that good fortune and hope I continue to have the ability to practice.

@dorjepadma I've fallen into those pitfalls myself while traversing the primrose path that is Western occultism. Every tool, practice, deity, and even empowerment can become a means of reifying an identity, of solidifying the "separate" self.

@serpentstar93 So what is left is most practicing esotericism as a way of reifying their own concepts, rather than cutting through to the essence of mind. Esotericism becomes a desperate attempt to hold the neurotic mind together, an impossible task, given that mind is empty and groundless.

@dorjepadma It was encountering traditional astrology that changed everything. The Buddha's first noble truth is that to live entails suffering. And I believe traditional astrology has the tools to articulate suffering and also how to respond to it skillfully.

@dorjepadma I was actually averse to astrology for a long time. All I had encountered was modern astrology which initially appeared to me as a means of just validating one's ego. When every celestial event is a "portal of unbelievable change," then where is space for our suffering?

@duncanDNUTidaho IMO Libra is a far more metal sign than we give it credit for, and we can't properly understand it without remembering it's Saturn's sign of exaltation. Btw, I absolutely adore this album. Thanks for giving me a reason to revisit it again today.

Venus in Libra manifests in the majesty of maples ablaze in shades of auburn and amber, their crimson leaves rippling in the wild autumn wind. Her words are honeycomb, her movements a fragrant breeze, her caresses are chrysanthemums, and her eyes are anemones.

We might also reflect, digest, and process lessons learned that year. Before stepping across the threshold of the New Year, we leave behind the old one, releasing those experiences into the past.
