Once Zuko and Sokka raided the prison, Zuko managed to get Zara in the process. She ended up being a key player in book three. When Zuko became firelord, she stayed in his household and became one of his trusted servants.

At some point, Azula took her when she and Zuko crossed paths. So she was bounced around a lot and made sure to be in place when she was serving Azula. Azula had given her a mark on her back, similar to Aang's once, because Zara was stubborn. (+)
