As a Sonderkommando prisoner at Auschwitz, Polish Jew Załmen Gradowski had to remove corpses from gas chambers and burn them. In October 1944, he and other members of the Sonderkommando revolted, damaging one crematorium and killing several guards. Załmen did not survive.
